India to have fastest super computer soon!!

seriously, don't involve IITs. The profs there are good but they are not cut out for such work.. we should rather involve scientists from TIFR and IISc.

Let the IITs bask in the petals which every media seem to throw at those brands..

Agreed, I just wanted to ensure profs and students in IIT get to know as what is expected from the next batch of IIT alumni’s and they should accordingly update their training materials….

first we need to work on certain things in confidential manner,we would need not to disclose the information about everything before we start the work.

. . . . .
India already have several PARAM series Super Computer......Good to see we are trying to develop fastest super computer.....

Criticising a nation for wanting to do better and be better is pretty despicable IMHO.

Fair point, IF India had a track record of mostly achieving what it said it will.

Problem is that India always makes a big noise about it will do this and that but rarely delivers on time, if at all.

It would be better if India DID it and then made the announcement.

And I would be pleased if India does pull this off.

Yup. I mean since Independence, India has faced a lot of criticism. People like Neville Campbell said hateful stuff about India, especially after India lost its war with China in 1962, about how India was a failed experiment etc etc., Today despite the assholes in power, we have made it to the number 3 spot in terms of GDP (PPP), along with some commendable scientific achievements. In just 60 yrs or so. Haters gonna hate, but India will be successful and nothing can stop that. Cuz its got lot of potential. Yes we have lots of cost overruns, time overruns etc., But no scientific endeavour has been without hurdles. And there is no doubt that India will do well.

Well this has already been approved by the govt, Manmonah Singh had made a promise in a big rally. A Team of scientists led Dr Vijay Pandurang Bhatkaris working on it for a long time. Last time when he led a supercomputing team he produced worlds 2nd fastest computer in 2 yrs. This time result will be same., this man is G.

The plan right now is to build 3 layers of computers. Top layer will be petaflops and will be installed in every major city of India, then it will be teraplops in small cities and then more less powerfull computers in third layer. Overall this entire system could use cloud and could be available to every citizen and university of India.

Now building a supercomputer is not an issue at all. It will cost only 50-100 million for worlds fastest petaflop computer. Problem is the power required. Each petaflop is expected to consume about 20 MW of electricity. We need another set of KUndakulam plants to sustain this program.

Second problem is that govt is not involving private sector in India, I think this is very imp to do so.

So what should India do?? Give up completyl?? Never try another project again?? FFS! You people are unbelivable. Show me a man who's never made a mistake and I'll show you a man who's not made anything blah blah blah. What is it to you? India is spending its own money on this it can do what it likes.

And wrt India ALWAYS failing! What utter BS apart from some over hyped delays India has an excellent record of success look at ISRO for instance. An utterly ignorant POV IMHO.

You need to read how India achieved its first supercomputer, then you will know what an achievement is.

Just look at the thread title. "India to have fastest super computer soon!!"

But India is currently not even in the TOP 50 supercomputers:

TOP500 List - June 2012 (1-100) | TOP500 Supercomputing Sites

But "soon" they will have the fastest supercomputer in the world? Are you kidding me?
