India to enter high-speed internet era with Isro's new satellites

Another bigger point is: How many ISPs gives true and same download and upload speeds? I will want to back up TBs of data to some cloud hosting platform. But, Can you do it regularly with a 3-5mbps speed? Naah! TRAI has no rules to provide the same. Here, I appreciate ACT broadband whom seems to provide this with a couple of other ISPs.

I guess India should focus more on improving the contention ratio for the country. Last mile connectivity is solving itself pretty fast, its contention ratio which is going to limit Indian broadband scene. Meaning, India needs more underwater cable linking it to the internet backbone in US/Singapore.

.
There is an all out pricing war in India, thanks to JIO who started it all.

The prices are damn cheap for 4G.

For 3 hundred rupees I was getting 1GB of 4G data every day for 28 days.

So that way I had no option but to return my modem to Asia Net Alleppey. They never gave me back my 3K towards the Modem that I paid.

I started giving tethered support to my laptop from my hand phone.
Cheaper this way.
Why was ?
I am still using the gio 300 rs per month , 1 gb per day plan .
And its got better coverage than airtel or vodafone .
Ofcourse i still have a cheap 200 rs plan of airtel for emergencies.

The problem with India being that it has older version of undersea cable namely; SEA-ME-WE 4
While the latest SEA-ME-WE 5 is bypassing India which is not the landing (point) party.

Honestly, Anything above 2 Mbps is a waste for most of the users. 2 Mbps works for every application except Hi-Def video, for which you can get 8 Mbps + in India quite cheaply.

I am on a 40 Mbps connection in India and can watch movies in HD without any lag what so ever

Plus INR 2000 for 40 Mbps for 200 GB data. Much cheaper than many US fibre connection.

And lets not even talk about Canada

http://www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/Internet_access

25 Mbps 350 GB monthly cap for 75 CAD? Thats highway robbery.

Indian cities have better broadband connections compared to Canada.
Which city dude is it cablewallah, 40mbs & 200gb is like :man_in_love:.

.
I am on 40 mbps plan and i honestly feel its a overkill.
Not sure what to do with such high speed, for me even 5 mbps is fair enough.

1000 rs for 40 mbps plan with 90 gb's FUP, with unlimited calls. I dont think there is room much to complaint.

Its cheaper in Delhi I guess 1760 for 200 GB 40 Mbps.

You are definitely Indian. :D

We certainly don't want to be Canadian in this regards and pay CAD 75 for a 25 mbps connection :D. Ma' Bell is looting ya Kanedeeyans.

Or a chinese and pay for a censored internet with fear that if we post about Tinneman square then police will visit our homes.

Chinese are typically over infatuated with numbers and want a big number for everything. Mostly, after 8 Mbps, you don't have any application with bandwidth. I will look for contention ratio and latency then.

Actually, honestly speaking, I prefer to watch movies or shows while tucked in sofa with an iPad. That means DVD quality is more than enough. My eyes cannt tell difference between DVD or HD with an iPad. May be folks with 100 inch plasma screens covering their entire wall will need HD 4K etc.

hindus and modi pig should focus more on improving basic services than dreaming about hi speed net.
Poor incompetent people should learn to carry their own weight by themselves by learning useful skills. They should not breed like pigs and further decay their own economic means.

Internet is not just meant for movies, if you know.

Actually India is joining AAE-1, a 40 Tbps cable with much higher capacity than SMW-5.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAE-1

Reliance seems to be the landing station in Mumbai.

SMW-5 was a having a proposed landing point at Mumbai but it never materialized.
