Honestly, Anything above 2 Mbps is a waste for most of the users. 2 Mbps works for every application except Hi-Def video, for which you can get 8 Mbps + in India quite cheaply.

I am on a 40 Mbps connection in India and can watch movies in HD without any lag what so ever

I'm getting 20mbps unlimited for 800 bucks in Delhi though i'm looking to switch to other ISP which can provide same plan for 700 INR.

Indian broadband prices are very much comparable to Chinese ones. Shanghai has 100 Mbps connection for 1900 RMB for one year minimum. Same as Delhi 100 Mbps connection for INR 1600 per month if you go for one year.

In Shanghai where internet is the most expensive in China, it costs 1900yuan per year according to your link, then it is 160yuan per month, and it is unlimited (all broadband networks in China only provide unlimited package). And do you know the income difference???

GDP nominal means nothing, nominal does not adjust for inflation. It is a worthless measure for comparision, especially for quality of life. People don't produce or eat dollars, they deal exclusively in local currencies and with real world goods and services. Do not derail the thread by bringing stupid nominal GDP in the conversation.

Good to hear that. Mine also optic fibre. I think with new initiatives and more number of internet subscribers the thing will improve. We pay per month here and are not bound by 3 year contract. The internet is unlimited and torrent gives 20 Mbps speed.

There is an all out pricing war in India, thanks to JIO who started it all.

The prices are damn cheap for 4G.

For 3 hundred rupees I was getting 1GB of 4G data every day for 28 days.

So that way I had no option but to return my modem to Asia Net Alleppey. They never gave me back my 3K towards the Modem that I paid.

I started giving tethered support to my laptop from my hand phone.
