India to Launch BrahMos Cruise Missiles From Su-30MKI Fighter Jets

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande agreed to supply the Indian Air Force with 36 French-built Rafale multirole fighters in April. Initially India planned to buy 126 Rafale jets to modernize its air force.

"We are looking forward to receiving the Rafales. Apart from this, there are other aircraft we are looking at. We will also be getting more Su-30MKIs. An order has also been placed for 120 Tejas Mk-IIs. There are many plans and things will change in the next 10-12 years," Raha said on Sunday, as quoted by The Economic Times.

He added that the need for new fighters stems from the upcoming retirement of the country's Mig-27 ML fighter jets that have not been upgraded in recent years.

India is planning to form several additional fighter squadrons in the near future.

So the news about more su 30 is true @Abingdonboy sir what's going on
More as in the final 272 figure is still to be realsied and MKI production will continue until 2018/19 but, right now, the IAF is not interested in anymore MKIs over and above the 272 figure- they have stated this numerous times over the years. The scope for new orders lays in LCAs, Rafales and FGFAs.

The Indian media are simply clueless as always.

It seems to be good mix of aircraft for the IAF .

It should have been India will INDUCT su 30 mki, tejas mk1p, as well as Rafale.

So30mki will get inducted till 2018-19 including margin for delays

Tejas and rafale from there..

Saurabh Jha said 2 days back that IAF is going for 50-80 more MKIs and 120 Tejas mk1A

MODI s Russian visit might throw the light , whether it's 50-80 super sukhoi or Pak Fa

We are not buying both .

We are already having higher percentage of Heavy aircrafts.

250+ Su30MKI with 100+ Rafale ( if IAF gets it ) will be one hell of Air force to reckon with ....

If 50-80 additional MKIs are added as said by Saurav Jha( and confirmed by ACM) then MKI numbers will reach 320-350. Though I personally don't think IAF will get more than 36-72 Rafales. Overall MKI+Rafale numbers seems to be around 380-400 though.

that's too much , better go with Rafale man .. you already have 250 MKI and are enough i guess ..
you can add extra MKI in short notice , but Rafale is something that will take its time before she " open her ghugat " in south Asia ;)
so if i was Indian i would prefer to see more Rafale than MKI's . 100+/- numbers will be good enough .. and wait till Russian 5th Generation fighter comes into mass production ..

It could mean pak fa is still a long way .
Looking at the numbers, it seems a wish list of required numbers.
I guess for make in India .

Yes Pak-FA can wait for long... or may be no PakFa at all and we'll go straight to FGFA in early next decade( as per the previous plans). Though things will unfold in next few months. lets see

Well thats a better idea for sure to go for 100+ Rafales but I don't think its economical anymore as that will cost not less than 20 Billion dollar. I wish we would have reached deal back in 2011-13 but blame the Indian politicians or 'babu' culture we lost there. Now its best to go for minimum Rafale requirement ( 36-72) and go for more MKIs( for around 1/3rd of cost of Rafale) to compensate the Original Rafale numbers. Also once MKIs are upgraded, they will be as good as Rafales.
