India poised to be world’s third largest economy by 2030: StanChart

Mumbai: India could be one of the largest economies in the world in the next two decades, according to an official from the Standard Chartered Bank.

“We are projecting that by 2030, China, India and Brazil would be the world’s first, third and fourth-largest economies,” Standard Chartered Bank’s Global Head (Client Access Transaction Banking), Neal Livingston said on June 1.

“Asia accounts for a third of the world’s GDP and is responsible for more than two-third of the world GDP growth,” he said.

The bank expects a roll-over in the top five economies of the world and believes that their power could be under threat from the BRIC nations. India’s GDP is expected to be $30 trillion by 2030. Increased capacity, better infrastructure, quality of education, health and hygiene are likely to boost India’s growth.

By 2030, China is likely to supersede the US and would reign as the super economy. China’s GDP volume is expected to reach $73.5-trillion, the highest in the world. In 2010 China’s GDP reached $5.9 trillion. The country with the highest population in the world will remain the main engine of growth that is sustained by the manufacturing industry.

Moreover, the highly educated in China surged significantly. During the past 30 years, China’s economy has changed from a centrally planned system that was largely closed to international trade to a more market-oriented one that has a rapidly growing private sector.

A major component supporting China’s rapid economic growth has been exports growth. Brazil’s GDP volume is expected to be around $12.2 trillion by 2030.

For sure India will be a success but to expect it to match up to China is asking a bit too much.

My predictions for largest economies in 2050:

1/ China
2/ India
3/ US
4/ Indonesia
5/ Brazil

Yes, Most likely. You are right.

1st 3 are Fine. 4th would be Brazil and 5th Russia , 6th-7th -- Japan/Indonesia (As per reputated international research report)

India would be 3rd easily, That would happen in next 15-20 years itself if growth will be 8% only.

.
India is 8th largest economy in 2011 an it will be 3rd largest in 2030, you better worry about Bangladesh/Pakistan which are considered as failed states...
he is giving positive views about ur country
why the heck are you criticizing bangladesh?? i am pretty sure bangladesh will do good as well

Why have you taken offence at my words? I just said that India will be second after China in 2050, which is what most IMPARTIAL observers think as well.

Bangladesh a failed state? Please expain how Bangladesh is considered a failed state when the average life expectancy is 67 years compared to India's 64? This year the economy has grown by around 7% which is around only 1% less than India.

btw, Bangladesh is far more stable than India in the sense that we do not have massive rebellions from our own citizens against the government unlike India.

BRIC nations will be in Top 5 in future. China - India - Brazil - Russia (Order Wise).

What you wrote is correct but any prediction [IMO] over 10 years has a significant probability to fail. So even estimates up to 2030 is unreliable.

Sometimes we make mistakes man! I hope you would take this into the consideration and forgive us for our mistake. Long live Bangladesh!

Apology accepted:)

You know India is a benchmark that Bangladeshis like to use when looking at the rate of economic growth that we can also achieve. We would have been content with 7% GDP growth but since India has achieved over 8%, then Bangladeshis would like to match this and even try to exceed this. India has set a very high benchmark for other South Asian countries and the competition will just make each country in the region richer and richer.

I know that what we South Asians have achieved in the UK, US, Canada etc our relations in the subcontinent will achieve in the decades to come.

Thank you !!! And Iam sure one day India and Bangladesh would coexist like USA and Canada, That will be the era of Asia.. we have tolerated enough suppression and its time for us to rise.
