India threatens to pull plug on peacekeeping

Most of the conflicts, mainly in Africa was solved when the rebel army defeated the govt forces or vice versa. The UN forces are just a barrier on the way to the inevitable. They are a bunch of toothless tigers with no mandate to engage the opposing forces. Military alliances like NATO have a better track record in ending conflicts through force like what they did in Bosnia, Kosovo and now doing in Libya.

peacekeeping is not for diplomatic gains but monetary gains by contributing countries.

monetary gain ???

this may be the least reason to deploy troops.those participating country's Govt is not getting any money, its the troops who gain little extra.

in fact govt is paying more in the form recruitment & training cost of soldiers, equipment costs(weapons, body gears, communication sets..etc).
india govt is even deployed 23 choppers which are brought in millions of dollars.

If it was for monetary gain then all poor countries would have horded to deploy their troops.

ignorance.

you need to update your information

1. every contingent item is paid for Helis, Tanks APCS Engineer equipment every thing. Every item on the inventory of a Force which it takes from Country is reimbursed

2. the Govt is paid also. there is a certain percentage of money that goes to the country of the troops

3. btw all poor countries including INDIA, BD and Pakistan send their troops for these missions ;) rather big chunk is going from these three poor countries

I believe that there is an error in the reporting and it should be 8500 peacekeepers deployed at present. Both Bangladesh and Pakistan field higher numbers. Moreover, indian govt. has decided to reduce the numbers progressively in the years to come.

yes currently if i am not wrong india has only about 4500 peace keepers major contributors are Pak and Bdesh.

You see most of the powerful countries don't deploy large numbers of their troops in as UN peacekeeper's.

May be for the soldiers of western countries the pay received as a part of UN is not inducement enough to serve in hostile regions of the world.

they do contribute but not in large number as Pakistan, India and BD are doing.

again the main aim is monetary by these countries

.
Most of the peacekeeping force are from south asia with BD, Pakistan and India in that order with 10.589, 10581 and 8513 personnals.
