India tells Asean it believes in ‘open’ South China Sea

To be fair, that line drawn by China was her biggest diplomatic mistake. It created so much mistrusts toward her among ASEAN nations. Any iterations of peaceful rises and securities on commercial sea lanes become hollow. Her insistence on bilateral negotiations are taken as bullying.

Her real intentions, as far as I can understand, are since those rocks do not belong to any one nation, China being a neighborhood country too has every right to share them. But her ultimate concern is she doesn't want any one nation to have hegemony over those islands because that's where her increasingly large fleet of merchant ships must go through.

China is not using her big power policies well yet, but in time she will learn.

Hard to say.

USA has Guan hundred times farther away from USA main land, nobody questions it. Thus, distance is NOT an issue. How about the conflict over Falkland islands between UK and Argentina?

Guan claim is based on WWII legacy, by force. Chinese claim of SCS is based on historical heritage activities, not by force.

Admit it: current international norms are built on Western regulations more or less enforced by forces and threat to use forces, which are in turn based on use of forces. Thus, China’s claim is doubted by many, especially those once thoroughly conquered in the past by West.

BTW, China's control of SCS doesn't mean the sea lanes are not open to public transportation. Thus, your statement "Any iterations of peaceful rises and securities on commercial sea lanes become hollow." is a twist of truth, if it is not an outright lie.

Pretty much sure some you Indians have the evil thinking, but don't possess the d@mn guts, as they can't even succeed in suppress their western less developed neighbor for the past 60+ years.

In fact, this imperialistic mentality may not be uncommon among Indians, as some of them admire the success of British in suppression of India and would like to follow their colonial master by first copying/pasting their system in a hope that it would make sure India would prevail, then claiming all British border demarcations are Indian demarcations (Nehru), effectively making India a second-hand imperialism, albeit a failed one even in regional (SA) affaires.

Back to topic, India’s confrontationally muddling South China Sea is nothing but putting an additional rope onto India’s throat where already have multiple ropes tightening all the time.

Let’s see when the drama unfolds, how less oxygen India would get…

Hi,

nothing racist at all i m just telling you the truth the perception of how asean view india.

Hi, I think...You Are A Victim Of Chinese Propaganda.

"India tells Asean it believes in ‘open’ South China Sea"

A perfectly sane statement, there ain't much Chinese can do about it..it's neighbors have taken a firm stand against hegemonic bullying...they can but 'twitch uncomfortably' about it.
It is not like they can go UN and prove their claims.

They are simply on the wrong side of History and the international Law(UNCLOS).

We ratified UNCLOS with the condition that our pre existing claims would be respected. They accepted this condition, and we're in.

Then let's use force with force.

United Nation's Convention on Law of seas

UNCLOS - Table of Contents

Article3

Breadth of the territorial sea

Every State has the right to establish the breadth of its territorial sea up to a limit not exceeding 12 nautical miles, measured from baselines determined in accordance with this Convention.

More source for Chinese who are unable to comprehend the one above

Internal waters
Covers all water and waterways on the landward side of the baseline. The coastal state is free to set laws, regulate use, and use any resource. Foreign vessels have no right of passage within internal waters.
Territorial waters
Out to 12 nautical miles (22 kilometres; 14 miles) from the baseline, the coastal state is free to set laws, regulate use, and use any resource. Vessels were given the right of innocent passage through any territorial waters, with strategic straits allowing the passage of military craft as transit passage, in that naval vessels are allowed to maintain postures that would be illegal in territorial waters. "Innocent passage" is defined by the convention as passing through waters in an expeditious and continuous manner, which is not "prejudicial to the peace, good order or the security" of the coastal state. Fishing, polluting, weapons practice, and spying are not "innocent", and submarines and other underwater vehicles are required to navigate on the surface and to show their flag. Nations can also temporarily suspend innocent passage in specific areas of their territorial seas, if doing so is essential for the protection of its security.

Contiguous zone
Beyond the 12 nautical mile limit, there is a further 12 nautical miles from the territorial sea baselines limit, the contiguous zone, in which a state can continue to enforce laws in four specific areas: customs, taxation, immigration and pollution, if the infringement started within the state's territory or territorial waters, or if this infringement is about to occur within the state's territory or territorial waters.[4] This makes the contiguous zone a hot pursuit area.

Landlocked states are given a right of access to and from the sea, without taxation of traffic through transit states.

In short China can Go and Fuckk itself.

Anyway if territory is claimed on the basis of History then China would be colony of Mongolia.

And wait more

Ethopians would claim the whole world.

Japanese would claim Manchuria.

China would also be colony of Tibet

We poked our noses in your internal affairs, it surely saved you from becoming cannon fodder for your previous masters.Guessing "poking your nose" is not all that bad..when it is done for the right cause.

What are you talking about? Who are our previous masters.:woot:

Who cares what India thinks about the south china sea??

Is it part of the SCS?? Nope.
Can it project real power in the SCS?? Nope
Can it match China in warship tonnage?? Nope
Does it have Anti-Ship Ballistic Missiles?? Nope
So who cares??
More Indian mental masturbation, nothing more.
YAAAAAAAWWWWwwwn

Surely ASEAN members do!!
Well your problem is international alliance based on consensus building against you...has you boxed in ..now you can abide by international law or you might try to bully yourself out of it ..any attack on any Indian ships in SCS will result in Indian response at Malacca (from where 90% of your oil supply comes through).

China should now actively back NE insurgents and by the time of next 1962 NE would be ready for independence. India only
understand things the hard way.
