India taking counter measures on China border.

Border Roads Update : Rajya Sabha, 11 Aug

Government has decided to expedite road infrastructure works along the border areas with China, revising its old military doctrine in view of the changing geopolitical scenario, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

"Earlier the military doctrine was to not have roads close to borders but the same has been revised due to changing geopolitical scenario and the government has taken a conscious decision to expedite road infrastructure construction in border areas," Defence Minister AK Antony said in reply to a query.

The minister said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been asked to concentrate on construction of strategic roads along the borders with China.

"There are plans for 73 roads on Indo-China border out of which BRO has been entrusted with 61 roads of total length of 3394 km in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh," he said.

Of the 61 roads, 14 roads have been completed and work is under progress with regard to 42 roads while construction activities of five roads are yet to commence.

"41 roads are planned for completion by 2013 and remaining six beyond 2013," he said.

Commenting on the roads along the Pakistan border, the minister said BRO is entrusted with development of 10,646 km of roads there.

"Out of the total length, 7344 km have been completed and the balance length is planned for completion by 2012 for priority I roads and 2022 for priority II roads," he added.

The minister said the lack of adequate efforts for mobilisation of resources, delay in forest clearances, unwillingness of contractors to work in remote and difficult terrains are the major factors affecting infrastructure improvement in border areas.

Is this what the light howitzers are intended for?

Yes, those, new SAMs and ground radars, MMRCA and AWACS, new IFV and tank destroyers, even the C130 and C17 procurements seems to have an aim on fast movement of troops to counter a Chinese attack.
Nearly all new procurements and developments are aimed on China and their military build up in Tibet, which is the biggest threat for India at the moment.

its an old saying
"IF YOU WANT PEACE, PREPAR FOR WAR"
India no longer consider Pakistan as a thret. all our recent preparations are in consideration China as a main thret & to counter it.
you dont need AWACS for Pakistan even SU30 has sufficient AWACS capabilities to counter Pakistan.
but things are different with China. they have got the resources, talent and manpower.
we surly need to work hard to counter that thret.

this is what we want, we want india to keep spending money on defense while its budget is in red line````financial suplus brought, bring and will bring countries to major power as the british in 18th, U.S in 19th and 20th`````you dont have one power is built on financial deficit

We are doing everything within allocated budget which is far more transparent and well lower than the % allotted by some other nations in the neighbourhood. Heck every year army returns the unspent money back to ministry. Its all about spending money where its is required the most and setting the priorities.

this is pure nonsenses, during Kosovo War Nato deployed dozens of AWACs in the war, and it was a very tiny area, besides those Nato figthers' radars are waymore capable than russians in terms of multi-function, warning, accuracy and duability.

your understanding of AWAC is very limited as if it is only used because it looks far, but the reality is far from this. AWAC is the crutial point of C4ISA system, it gathers intelegence, provides round-up combat situation to the front line fighters and back line control centers, it not only detecting enemy units but also allocate them to relative unites to deal with them efficiently, and it has the ability to jam opponents radar signals and such.

In terms of radar detection range of fighters, for examples like F-16C/D, F-15E, F-18E/F or Su30's radar in theory has range well over 250KM+. but these range can only be acheive by optimum conditions, like there is no single interferance, the target's RCS is well over 15, and the signal has to fixed on one single target..etc``

the fighters like F-16 and FC-1 has very small radar cross section (3 or 5) and also has jamming function which reduces Su-30's detection range dramatically to under 50km, so without AWAC's support Su30 will gain no advantage against them and hence to utilize it BVR capability

wow ! You do calculations real fast for situations which even Mainframes take hours to reach a value.

kiddo, those figures are out there, you need to educate youself about the very basics of RCS or AWAC techs

India is only doing what many other countries are doing themselves - Preparing for worst case scenerio! So I don't see what all the fuss is about really!

^would that include a lesson in chinese physics?
all you can do is quoting someone else's lines``anything else you can do? try to prove india doesnt need AWAC in case war break out with Pakistan, or its too much for you?
