India takes step toward resolving border dispute with Bangladesh

Don't care whether you cheer it or not but the fact that a constitutional amendment has been passed unanimously is no small feat. That is now the position of the Indian state.

Unlike what you think, this is no simple "amendment", constitutional amendments are those requiring change to the Indian constitution itself & are taken extremely seriously, requiring passing by a 2/3rd majority in both houses of parliament as well as by a proportion of state legislatures.. This is no longer the process in progress, it is the culmination of the process, nothing more needs to be done. Everything else will follow automatically.

Blah blah blah.....40 years too little and too late. Now just implement the border demarcation and build your fence ASAP.

. . .
BGB and Police started to move in and out in those enclaves. Enclave people are having week long celebration. Having sweets. Running happy with BD flag.

. .
To mention here enclave people have options to opt any of the nationality Indian or Bangladeshi. Lets see how many of Bangladeshi enclave people go to India. It will be huge blow for brainless Indians when none of Bangladeshi will choose India over Bangladesh. Myth will be busted of illegal migration.

. .
Not really that big of an expert on how India's government system works. Care to explain?

Since the boundaries of India has to be changed, there has to be a change in the constitution itself. That requires an amendment to the constitution to be passed by both the houses with a 2/3rd majority & by the state assembles of the affected states.

.
Good development, now afterwards if any BDs tries to enter India shoot him between his legs ..... And if Border Guards interfere punish them with Air strikes and Artillery.

And apparently there was a drafting error in the bill passed, so it has to be passed again on Monday. The stupidity of our elected leaders is mind boggling.

Not really the fault of the elected leaders but yeah, that's embarrassing. Amendment referred to as 119th, instead of 100, requiring it to be passed again.

No one in thier right mind will loose land and will go to some other country, only those who want a job will pole vault. and not everyone in these enclaves will be poor and without jobs.

Stop generalising.

I dont think just the affected states, amendments to the constitution needs the approval of 50% of states apart from the 2/3 required in both the lower and the upper house.

Only if there is any change in the provisions mentioned in Article 368, not otherwise.

.
India's cumbersome system requires two third of state assembles to okay this. The affected states also need to agree. The bill will then come back again to parliament for its assent. And finally their Rastrapoti has to agree. Thereafter physical work will begin. Identify the new boundaries. Obtain options from individuals. Settle the newcomers. So let's keep fingers crossed.
