India surprised to find Bangladeshis coming for simple pathological tests

Yes, in another thread some Bangladeshis were boasting about one of their high end restaurant chains, I had to inform them that it was actually an Indian company owned by an Indian Bengali....then they declared that they will boycott that restaurant chain!

Please point me to this thread. It sounds like a fun read. :D

TBH i find chittagong better than Dhaka . Dhaka is so dense I don't know how do people live there . 15 million people in 250 sq/km . Even my village is bigger than that and yet inside that small area there are 15 million people crammed inside with millions of rickshaws and what not .
Where did you get the bullshit of 15 million people in 250 sq. km in Dhaka? Dhaka is dense but not that type.Metropolitan Dhaka which is core urban area is 304 sq. km and contain 7 million people, average density 23200/sq. km and greater Dhaka is 2161 sq. km and contain 17.2 million people, average 7900/sq. km.Dhaka's main problem is not the density but lack of public transport infrastructure.Paris urban core is 105 sq. km contain 2 million people.Average density 19000/sq.km.Is that city unlivable?

These are areal shot of Dhaka. Some part are more dense(business area) some have normal density for Asian standard.

Dhaka was named as the least liveable mega city in the world for a reason .

When there is so much population crammed inside 300 sq/km then there are bound to be loads of problems like traffic jams , housing problems etc etc . As for the density if you google it you will find Dhaka topping the charts of the most dense cities . Yes the problem on top of that is no public transport system , usually i find the roads in bangladesh bad so i would think the roads inside dhaka are no different .

Infrastructure wise you guys need to do alot of work . I think you guys just recently finished the 4 lane highway?4 lane highway first time in Bangladesh?that too in 2016? . Public transport between the cities might be another problem too . Do you guys have any luxury buses that connects all Bangladeshi destinations?I would think no or maybe one . Same for railway?

Infrastructure and public transport is your biggest problem considering that such a small sized country has 160 million people .

That ranking is mostly due to traffic jam, lack of public transport.I can assure you, after completion of metro rail, elevated expressway and under construction road and flyovers,Dhaka will not show up in bottom 20.

I already gave you example of Paris.Dhaka's density is not much higher than Paris.Hong Kong's urban density is greater than Dhaka. There are a lot of examples.Main problem is Road and public transport, which is killing it's reputation.
This city is Milan,Italy.See how dense it is.Isn't it one of the best city in Europe?

Within cities there are many 4,6,8 lane highways from earlier times. What was not there is inter-city 4 lane highways. Two 4 lane highway worth around 300 km will be opened this months.Several others are under construction.
There are intercity luxury buses.I can remember Greenline,Volvo. There are others have to check out.

Dhaka tops the list of most dense cities by population .

My original post was about population density not Density in buildings/Skyline. Dhaka's population is humongous for its tiny area . Overall Bangladesh seems to suffer because of population density not just Dhaka. It affects quality of life . People wanting to live in houses have to life in tiny apartments because of less area . With huge demand of population and less area comes the demand of more roads , flyovers , metros etc etc .

Population density lower the quality of life is a flawed logic. For your convenience I give no other example other than Pakistan. What is the population density of northern half of Pakistani Punjab? And what is the density in Baluchistan? Which part of your country has the best quality of life? Northern half of Punjab is the most productive land in Pakistan. Its population density is not much lower than Bangladesh.Bangladesh is easily twice as productive than even northern Punjab. Now do you think population density in BD is unusual?

Lets compare Lahore and Dhaka.

Both almost have the same population , but Lahore is 6 times bigger than Dhaka by area . Lahore having much bigger area has a much better transport system , flyovers , road network than Dhaka has . 80-90 % people in Lahore live in houses compared to almost the same people in dhaka living in tiny apartments no matter how big the family is . In our part of the world small area and big population causes loads of problems . Bad construction material , bad roads and flyovers end up being a nightmare because millions of passengers and vehicles use them . In Europe population density is not a problem because the these problems don't exist there . The roads are great , public transport is excellent , rules are followed and everything is in order . In Bangladesh over population and population density is a big problem because everything is not upto the standard and on top of that you have millions of people inside a city that cannot accommodate it . If Lahore was as densely populated as Dhaka and as small its quality of life would have been similar to Dhaka . But government invested in public transport , good road network and now under construction of orange line and to top that Lahore has an area of 1600 sq/km . You guys need a few planned cities like Islamabad to lessen the judgement day on Dhaka .

Population density does play a part in developing countries .

Population density does play a part in developing countries .

Its a fundamental reason why the PPP multiplier is much lower for Bangladesh compared to India and Pakistan.

Bangladesh has higher population density than the Palestinian territories, and thats including the rural areas....so you can imagine what the urban ones are like given its a developing country.

Rwanda and Haiti are the next highest population density developing countries after Bangladesh and as you can see their PPP multiplier is not so great either:

Who told you Lahore is six times larger than Dhaka by Area? Lahore is 1772 sq. km and Dhaka is 2161 sq. km.Population is also not same,Lahore is 10 million and Dhaka is 18 million.

Dhaka's total area is 300 sq km. Bangladesh doesnt have huge sized cities. There is a reason Dhaka is the densest city in the world because the area is very tiny compared to its population.

Am talking about the city itself not Dhaka district or Greater dhaka.

Only core area is 300 sq. km.But Dhaka has expanded in all direction from this core.So new area included in its calculation which is 2161 sq. km.300 sq. km is an obsolete data.7 million people live in 300 sq. km not 18 million. There are two type of calculation in city's area and population.Metropolitan area and urban agglomerate.

By this logic Mongolia should have 1 million dollar ppp per capita income.

Obviously its not the only factor 100% of the time for every scenario. There is a sweet spot where you have enough population present evenly through the land in question to have a balance of exploitation/cost. Bangladesh is well past that point (for easy land transfer/acquisition according to industrial/manufacturing requirements + large scale agriculture). Some countries are well under it (like Mongolia, Namibia). Ganges basin is similar to Bangladesh as well, but India has the interior heartlands, western reaches, Deccan etc...more options are available to hedge well. The populated regions have to carefully tread in a model roughly like how the Chinese have done so in their high density Eastern regions (but hopefully with greater awareness of mitigating the external costs).

Doesn't mean Bangladesh is doomed to stay low income forever, just dont expect large PPP differential. Your PPP is turned to nominal a lot faster because of the highly compacted domino effect....but there is no easy way for Bangladesh to increase its PPP frontier just as rapidly since that represents actual end-user consumption levels. Overall long term growth is also almost exclusively reliant on improvement of human capital quality for high population density countries.

And where did you get 2161 sq km area from ? if its this big how come its always ranked as the densest city population wise?
