Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) System has achieved a major milestone by a direct hit on to a Banshee Pilotless target aircraft at medium range & medium altitude.

The missile launch took place from ITR Chandipur on 13th Nov 2020 at 1550 hrs off the Odisha Coast. The missile is propelled by a single stage solid propellant rocket motor and uses all indigenous subsystems. The Missile is canisterised for transportation and launch using a mobile launcher capable of carrying 6 canisterised missiles.

All QRSAM weapon system elements like Battery Multifunction Radar, Battery Surveillance Radar, Battery Command Post Vehicle and Mobile Launcher were deployed in the flight test. The system is capable of detecting and tracking targets on the move and engaging target with short halts. The system is designed to give air defence coverage against strike columns of Indian Army.

The radar tracked the Banshee target from farthest range and missile was launched when target was within kill zone and achieved the direct hit with terminal active homing by RF Seeker guidance. Various DRDO labs DRDL, RCI, LRDE, R&DE(E), IRDE, ITR have participated in the test.

The weapon system elements have been realized through Defence PSUs BEL, BDL and private industry L&T. The missile system is fully indigenous with active RF Seekers, Electro Mechanical Actuation (EMA) systems sourced from various industries. The Radar is four walled Active Phased Array Radar. All range Tracking stations, Radar, EOTs & Telemetry Stations monitored the flight parameters.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Secretary DD R&D & Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated DRDO Scientists for the achievement.

Oh, i didn't know that all SAM's are slow reaction and now India is only country having QRSAM

The main difference is reaction time.

Akash is a medium-range mobile surface-to-air missile defense system developed by DRDO.
Range - 30–35 Km
Radar - Rajendra 3D Radar
Altitude - 18000 m
Guidance - Command guidance
QR-SAM
Range - 30KM
Development agency - DRDO
It's reaction time is better than Akash SAM. It might have cannister launching system which is considered better than conventional launch vehicle like of Akash SAM.
Akash would be used for defending stationary assets like Airfields,Army installation etc.While QR-SAM might be used for offensive operations.
Further information about the seeker and radar is still unknown.
BTW we must congratulate scientists and technicians working on the project.They saved at least 6 billions of dollar for us.

The poster from DRDO indicated that not only the missile but the radars and comm systems are mounted on Ashok Leyland.

This has been the norm for a while now. The armed forces have been increasingly using Tata or Ashok Leyland trucks for truck mounted missile and air-defence systems. I've only seen a few ICBMs' and strategic missiles being carried on a Tatra truck due to their significantly larger size but I expect Tata/Ashok Leyland to replace Tatra in the future

Complementing @FlashGordon post...It's called the QR-SAM because it has a speed of Mach 4.7 while other air defence systems developed by DRDO and currently deployed with the armed forces like Akash SAM or LR-SAM/Barak-8 have speeds of Mach 3+ and Mach 2 respectively

Tatra trucks are highly valued by the IA for its Build Quality and Ruggedness. They out class both TATA and AL in this.

Only they come MIRED in corruption and high cost due to that, and is serving a 1 year ban in India.

We can't keep relying on foreign imports for something as basic as trucks no matter how good the build quality is of these imports when our companies are able to produce world class counterparts.
 
Kudos to the scientists and contribitions by everyone involved including L&T. These systems will help IA plug all the holes resourcefully where conventional SAM's cannot be deployed and will also serve to protect the forces during offensive deployments.
We can't keep relying on foreign imports for something as basic as trucks no matter how good the build quality is of these imports when our companies are able to produce world class counterparts.
The Indian planners have realized that they are towards the end of the runway for reliance on foreign imports and the new thinking is that our companies are already making decent hardware, they will keep making marginal improvements until they reach the same world class levels and surpass them especially in terms of cost efficiency, maintainence and operational readiness.. not to mention the most undesired scenario of having to rapidly mass produce them if and when it comes to WW3.

So, the same agency developed 2 systems for the similar air defense job (35km vs 40km)?

It might have cannister launching system which is considered better than conventional launch vehicle like of Akash SAM.

This is not ballistic missile. Cannister doesn't help on quick launch for air defense missile but maintenance.

Akash would be used for defending stationary assets like Airfields,Army installation etc.While QR-SAM might be used for offensive operations.

Both have their missile, command, radar on different truck. Really don't see why QRSAM can do a better job on offensive operation.
