India successfully test-fires nuclear capable Agni-V

But TimesNow launched the missile at 10.15 am itself :P

Agni 5 - - - Proved its capabilities. Most advanced ICBM in Asia!!!

Whats the points of 'Most Advanced ICBM' , if it is to be compared with only Asian Missiles?:coffee: It is as same as mumbai k world famous 'Vada Pav':coffee:

The successful test firing of Agni V is the result of the hardwork of DRDO & its scientists. I congratulate them. President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the successful launch.

"Congratulations DRDO for successfully test firing Agni-V. It will enhance our strategic and deterrence capabilities," Mukherjee said in a tweet.

wonder how much each missile cost? like $2m each?

Post videos guys.

Also, were MIRVs tested on Agni 5 or no?

Pointless. Increasing range of a ballistic missile is the easiest of jobs. Any established missile power can do it within a certain time frame, if chose to. However, that's a useless exercise if you don't have an enemy that far. Developing credible counter measures to ABM systems, miniturizing warheads to create bigger impact, and improving guidance/seeker technologies on board is the hard part.

It will be good to get 10k for the navy, so we can hit nations while being very far away.

Officials of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which designed and developed the missile, called it “a wonderful moment” and “a huge success.”

Agni-V's re-entry system worked perfectly as well. Its nose-cone that encases the warhead is made of carbon-carbon composites, which can withstand a searing temperature of about 3,000 degrees Celsius when the missile re-enters the earth’s atmosphere.

The importance of the success of Agni-V lay in the fact that it was fired from a canister mounted on a massive TATRA truck. A gas generator at the bottom of the canister ejected the three-stage missile that weighs 50 tonnes and measures 17 metres long. It has a diameter of two metres. A launch from a canister mounted on a truck gives the missile flexibility of movement.

Agni-V can be made vertical in three minutes and fired from a roadside in a town.

Former spokesperson of DRDO Ravi Gupta said, “We have come a long way. This is a major landmark in the journey of India’s missile programme, with its acquiring a powerful nuclear deterrence... This is a wonderful moment.”

The missile was tested in its final, deliverable version to the Army. Its configuration has already been frozen.

The bouquet of Agni-I, Agni-II, Agni-III, Agni-IV and Agni-V form the bulwark of India’s nuclear deterrence programme. All of them can carry nuclear warheads. While Agni-I has a range of 700 km, Agni-II can take out targets 2,000 km away, Agni-III can travel 3,000 km and Agni-IV 4,000 km. The Army has already deployed these four missiles. Prithvi-II too can carry nuclear warheads.

All these missiles form part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.

Don't fire angel 5 toward China, cause i need to buy copy cancer drugs from India. If you fire , then I can't find Dehli on map any more.
Are u sure will be there to after the scenario you talking about?

India produce fine copy cancer drug, next time you can fire a Agniv 5 with last stage detachable parachute capasule that delivers those drugs at fast rate.

LOL we are not Chinese to claim like worlds best. We know what Russians and Americans are capable of. Agni is most respected by even Chinese defence experts and others. Highly advanced missile technology involved. From rocket fuel, motor to Body and warhead. Note : this missile can be converted to kill satellite in space with anti satellite kill vehicle insteed of warhead. Dude m it can reach 5500 km with 1.5-2 km warheads. Now compare Chinese ICBM with 1 Ton warhead or less. For range

LOL, why would india be "hitting" nations while being far away? Except china and Pakistan, india doesn't have any possible military rivals on other continents (unlike U.S, China, UK/France, and Russia)

Anyways, fanboys are gonna fanboy..

Successful Test Flight of Agni-5

Agni-5, the Long Range Surface-to-Surface Ballistic Missile was successfully flight tested by DRDO today at 1100hrs from Dr. Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. The full range test-flight of the missile has further boosted the indigenous missile capabilities and deterrence level of the country. All the Radars, tracking systems and Range Stations tracked and monitored the flight performance and all the Mission objectives were successfully met. This was the 4th test of Agni-5 missile and the second one from a Canister on a Road Mobile Launcher. All the four missions have been successful.

The President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee congratulated DRDO for the successful test flight of Agni-V which will enhance the country’s strategic and deterrence capabilities.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi congratulated DRDO on successful test firing of Agni-V saying that it is the result of hard work of DRDO and its scientists which makes every Indian proud and adds tremendous strength to our strategic defence. Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar also congratulated DRDO for the successful test firing of Agni-V for further strengthening India’s defence capabilities.

As someone above pointed out, you don't need anti cancer drugs - you need anti-psychotics "at fast rate".

Please stop polluting the thread if you have nothing constructive to contribute.

Let's take a look at where does India's Agni-V stand in comparison with the ICBMs of other countries in the world:

Russia
R-36M (SS-18 Satan) missile is the world's longest range of ICBMs. Russia intends to replace the R-36 with a new heavy ICBM, the RS-28 Sarmat. Its throw-weight is 8,800 kg, making the Soviet R-36 the world's heaviest ICBM in comparison with the heaviest US ICBM (the retired LGM-118 Peacekeeper, that carried 10 warheads of 300 kt each) which had less than a half of this at 4,000 kg. It has a strike range of 16,000 kilometers.

Other active ICBMs include: UR-100N 15A30 / SS-19 Stiletto

RT-2PM Topol / 15Zh58 / SS-25 Sickle

RT-2PM2 Topol-M / SS-27 / RS12M1 / RS12M2

RS-24: MIRV-equipped.

R-29R SS-N-18 Stingray

R-29RK SS-N-18 Stingray Mod 2

R-29RL MIRV-equipped/SS-N-18 Stingray Mod 3

R-29RM MIRV-equipped/SS-N-23 Skiff

R-29RMU Sineva MIRV-equipped/SS-N-23 Sineva mode 2

R-29RMU2 MIRV-equipped/SS-N-23 Liner

RSM-56 Bulava MIRV-equipped/SS-NX-30

United States

The LGM-30 Minuteman is a land-based ICBM, in service with the Air Force Global Strike Command. As of 2016, the LGM-30G Minuteman III version[a] is the only land-based ICBM in service in the United States. It has an operational range of 13000 km but the exact range is classified.

Other ICBM include:

UGM-133 Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missile

China

China has the Dongfeng or 'East Wind' series of ICBMs which are also known as 'DF missiles'. These are a family of short, medium, intermediate-range and intercontinental ballistic missiles. DF 5A is China's longest range ICBM and is capable of striking targets within the range of 13,000 kilometers. The DF series are are land-based ICBMs.

List of ICBMs include:

DF-3 (CSS-3): Road mobile, 4,000-5,000 km

DF-4 (CSS-3): 1975, silo-based, 5,500-7,000 km

DF-5, DF-5A, and DF-5B (CSS-4): silo based, (1981) 13,000- (1983) 15,000 km, MIRV - 3 to 8

DF-31 (CSS-9): 2006, road mobile, 7,250-8,000 km range.

DF-31A: 2007, road-mobile, 11,270 km, MIRV - 3

DF-31B: 2015, road-mobile, unknown range and MIRV capability

DF-41 (CSS-X-10): 2010, road-mobile, 12,000-15,000 km MIRV - up to 10

Israel

Jericho III is a road mobile ICBM which entered service in 2008. It is a three-stage solid propellant missile with a payload of 1,000 to 1,300 kg with a range of 4,800 to 11,500 km. An upgraded version of the Jericho III was successfully test fired in November, 2011 by Israel.

France

The M51 SLBM is a submarine-launched ballistic missile deployed with the French Navy. It was inducted into service first in 2010. It has an operational range of about 8,000-10,000 km. France only deploys submarine-launched ICBMs, with all land based IRBMs decommissioned.

Pakistan

Despite its tall claims, the longest range missile in Pakistan happens to be Shaheen-III ballistic missile. It has an operational range of 2,750 km which was test fired for the first time by military service on March 9, 2015.
