And neither would they jeopardize their relations with China. Much of their military equipment, and business come from China. To do so otherwise would be foolish on their part.

They agreed to a change because they realized that having a bunch of stubborn generals in charge was pointless. That is what the generals themselves realized.

One cannot develop to its full potential by closing itself completely for half a century. Their ASEAN membership helped them tremendously.

India had little choice but to play along since they understand that they cannot afford to antagonize Myanmar. Junta or not.
