What's new

India stares at a future without jobs

You need to look at it from a much broader PoV than you are now.

We have about 7 million people graduating every year. This number will eventually double and stabilize. And with every few years, the quality of the graduates only increases. So this also increases their value outside the country.

What you are looking at is a few years from now while you should be looking at what will happen 15 years later.

You say we need to reduce population, but there is no need for that. 15 years down the line, pretty much all our people, or at least most of our people, will be able to afford graduate level education. This gives them the minimum qualification required to look for a job outside the country.

So our main aim isn't to create jobs only in India, but to get other countries to open up their markets to Indian labour. And this is a primary agenda for India when negotiating trade deals. We are asking for free movement of high skilled labour in Europe, US and RCEP.

RCEP:

“Earlier, other members were not even ready to discuss services. Now they have agreed to include a separate chapter on Mode 4 services (movement of natural persons) in the agreement,” a commerce ministry official said, requesting anonymity.

When it comes to countries like China, we are okay with opening up our market to Chinese goods if they open up their market to Indian services, including movement of people.

EU FTA

Mode 4 covers temporary movement of natural persons. Liberalisation under mode 4 would mean the EU allowing more Indian professionals preferential access to the European labour market, which could boost remittances from the EU to India.

So opening up our economy would also mean other countries will have to open up their economies for Indian labour.

We are also trying to get WTO to reform.

The argument is if companies like Google and Ford want to sell in India, then the US should allow access to Indians in the US.

Our population is our biggest advantage.

Unrestricted immigration is dead. You have not been paying attention to bre-exit, Trump etc.

Indians settled in USA want their kids to have jobs. They care less about Indians in India. A lot of them voted for Trump.

India has to solve its problems on its own. Read birth control

18 million youngsters enter the job markets. Immigration can absorb 200,000 at most.

Very temporary problems. All to do with the economic slowdown.

Nope. Immigration brings remittances. And investment.

Those 200,000 (actually far more because the US alone has 200,000 Indian students and the UK has 100,000) alone can bring in as much money into the country as the revenues of entire states.

Immigration to USA is limited. It does not matter what 100,000 immigrants do. At one point in time I am one of the 100,000. I have not sent money to India in a long time. I spend $2000 on my trip to India every 3 years. in fact i plan to sell all ancestral property and take money out of the country.

That's fine. You are one of the few who probably managed to get permanent residency. But that's not the case with everybody. What if you were told to leave after 6 years?

Practically all Indians who go to the Middle East are only expats. They need to leave after 20 years. So these people have to invest in India for retirement.

Mode 4 is for temporary workers. So you get your experience in one country and then you move. So there is always movement of money which earns the govt revenue.

In your case as well, you say you didn't send money for the longest time, even that's fine. The fact is you did send money, so you can imagine how many worked will be in your position when you started off.

And that's not all. Maybe you won't or don't plan to, but there are many like you who return and setup companies in India. Something you wouldn't have been able to if you worked only in India. A reverse brain drain. Which translates to FDI.

After all, it's about taking other people's money.

anything i sent will be dwarfed by what gets pulled out. you have not seen any selling of assets in india by folks who have settled abroad. wait till it hits in the next 20-30 years

That goes both ways. Right now, money's coming into India. And this can change in 5 years and then change again in 5. However the fact is remittances have been increasing consistently no matter what.

It's not easy to get green card or citizenship of other countries. You will notice that the number of Indians entering the US every year and the number of Indians getting green card don't match. Countries like China and Japan will be even worse. And permanent residency in the Middle East is practically impossible.

The quality of life in India is low and jobs are low profile, that's why people leave. But as that improves, less and less people will opt for a different country.

.
Only one thing is ridden us in our minds that is the money how to earn and how to settle ourselves in abroad... but we do not know one day we have to die and to do something for that life which is eternal and it has no end to finish... money money nothing else is in our minds.... pata pal ka nahi samaan so baras ka dhoontay hain...

.
India is hopeless.
Politicians there are obsessed with internal wars instead of jobs.
PDF RSSers here never care about those Hindu who cannot speak English and come from low caste.

I come from a low caste :D However opportunity are available to those who seek it. India is not generating enough jobs and there is no 2 cents about it. We need more companies in diverse range of cities. Investments in India are happening in just 5-6 cities all over India which is just bad.
