India sets stage for $2.4bn transport aircraft contest

So why the DRDO's chief had a flight on NG, just because of the fact that he wants to have trip to sky??? There is something that they don't want you(and others as well) to know.

Because he can lol! DRDO has almost nothing to do with IAF foriegn fighter procurement it is upto the IAF and MoD what to do to fill certain criteria, the DRDO is merely a supplier/OEM not an end-user and so this move means next to nothing. The fact is he went to Sweden to take part in a R&D conference and the Swedes (and much of the world) are desperate to jump into bed with the DRDO on the R&D front because it is clear that the MoD/GoI/Indian military are going to want more and more indigenous defence solutions and India is where the big defence money will be spent in the futre. The NG flight was the Swedes trying to show off to a man that could bring them big business opportunities.
So will they going to order more MKIs and what are the current final numbers are? I have heard that about 300 MKIs. I think they should also look towards MiG-35s

Why do you keep insisting on adding different fighters to the already highly varied fleet? The IAF has said in the past it is looking to cut down on the different types of fighters in the fleet, adding more is counter-intuative. The Rafale as it is will already replce the Mig-21s, most MiG-27s and quite a few Jags. Why should the IAF go for fighters it has already failed and been declared unsatisfactory in meeting IAF's high selection criteria? The MiG-35 especially has failed to meet a huge amount of the selection criteria and is still just an up-rated Mig-29K with not a single order (not even from RuAF) to date. All the IAF would be signing up for with the MIG-35 would be a world of hurt and the IAF has had enough of this at the hands of the Russians as it is and is unlikely to go down that route.

.
In short, I understand that IAF is now a 100% professional Air Force and will be looking only towards Rafaels about 200 to replace Mig-21 and MiG-27s from the fleet. In future FGFA as additional or as a replacement for Jags and M-2000s along with ACMA
