If we do not provide a high-tech platform for our scientists and engineers to express themselves, they will flock to countries like US and UK to find a platform for themselves. We already have a large brain drain problem which impede the growth of our economy. 
There is a moral justification for UK sending aid to India. British rule completely destroyed India's economy. India's share in the world economy was drastically reduced under British rule. UK reduced a once prosperous country to a third world nation. They made India a market for British goods which were made by raw materials from India itself. Industrial revolution in Britain was essentially fueled by wealth obtained from India. Even British historians agree on this. They are giving us nothing compared to what they took away.

British aid is very important to the poor in India.

It's the only money that helps alleviate poverty.

Indian elites are wasting tax payer money on luxury.
While the poor survives on British aid.

Even now Britain is helping the Indian poor like in the good old days.

and don't forget aid from USA and Japan to China.they're one of the top country in the list of receiving AID..LOL...

280 million pounds is nothing compared to what we spend yearly on welfare-
$20 billion-food security
$25 billion-MNREGA
many other programs worth billions of $$ more.......
And our budget for space?? $900 million, which helped save 100's of thousands of lives in orrisa when our sattelites were able to track and monitor the storm.........A similiar storm in 1999 killed lakhs of people.

British should instead use this money for their own welfare. After all it's gross external debt is what, 4 times the size of it's GDP, maybe it can clear some of that up with these "peanuts".

Now i know why UK and USA paid so much and helped for indian Mars mission...

They want some off licence shops on Mars before they sent man mission towards Mars..
