India’s Quiet Counter-China Strategy

.
That is the point, I would prefer to delay it.

I am a great fan of Deng Xiaoping's advice, "keep a cool head, and maintain a low profile".

But the cat is already out of the bag, unfortunately. Now the problem is that people are actually overestimating us, by a wide margin.

One small example, a recent poll I saw in the Economist showed that more than half of the American population believed that China was already the biggest economy. When in fact we are FAR away from that point. We are still a developing country with a large amount of poverty and a low GDP per capita.

People are expecting too much of us, especially in terms of things like Climate change. Our carbon emissions per capita are still five times less than that of the Western world.

I think India can learn a lot from this experience. Better to let people underestimate you, rather than the other way around.

Your being there helps take care of that to an extent. ;)

GPit,

Do a handful represent a country?

Do those Chinese who are vitriolic towards India represent China as a whole? I have myself been subject to attack and ridicule. But should I retort which I can and quite well do. But then how am I then a better human being? Let us try to be good men and not good internet warriors!

Life is full of hatred and injustices.

Let us not add to it.

Let us try our best to relieve the sadness of the people who are merely trying to do each other down.

Look at the sadness of the Pakistanis today. 80 men have been killed by a Drone attack.

Should i fell happy since it would be expected because of the historical baggage?

If I do, then I am not a human being!

I rather be a human being and share their sorrow and yet keep the mind clear to analyse why did it happen.

You expect Indians to hate the British. It is true that they did many things that are wrong. But can we change history? Let us keep the good that they may have done and forget the evil.

Here is a poem by a British, born in Mumbai, and who was an out and out racist. But his words are still wonderful, no matter what he was. I rather remember him for his good. He said this and it is there on every Military Cadet's room in the Indian military Academy. Indian forgive and we try to look at the good side of people.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Buddy, i am sorry to tell you that I personally experienced several Indians in a now non-existing Indian forum many years ago. I guess I may still have screen shots and copy of their words in my local PC. I hate to present them to the world, but just let you know that an internet Indian called S.A.T.A. said he loved to join the Japanese in raping the Chinese when people lamenting Nanking Massacre. Another internet Indian, who looks like the owner called Field Marshal, blatantly said:”we just hate CHINESE”… too many of these. They insulted anybody who praised China, they insulted and repeatedly banned a Swedish called Yuebaili because he loves the Chinese language, though he hates CPC and wants to split Tibet from China. A Taiwanese was humiliated and was dumped with dirtiest words only those Indians can invent…not to mention limited Pakistanis or Bangladeshis used to be there.

Frankly, all of those non-SA people loved India so much before they had entered that forum: India, the origin of Buddhism, the origin of non-violence movement, vast local tradition and cultures… just imagine that! There are couples of big Indian fools in recent India history, but which country doesn’t have one or more. But not the ordinary people... it shouldn’t go that way, the way of internet violence and terrorism.

Frankly, I was also banned by some Chinese forums several times due to my criticism and straightforwardness, but I never see forumers are got insulted in such an Indian way.

How understandable that your democracy mutates into a democrazy based on such constituency… Yeah we know the quiet are the majority but they are being hijacked by a few through the process of democrazy controlled by the few.

Well, the online world is filled with sadists.

You have a choice not to become one yourself.

.
I am amazed how ordinary Indians and Chinese have become enemies on the internet!

In person, they get along pretty well. They even have respect for each other's country and civilizations.

What happens on the forums? Is there something to it? Is it all natural?

Or is it just letting out and doing what they can't in real life?

.
Just read the words and think does it not also apply to all of us here?

.
Your being there helps take care of that to an extent. ;)

I reply to Indian flamers in the same tone.

Don't take that as underestimation though. We of all people, should know the potential power of a large population combined with strong economic growth.

I meant that China's rise ensures that India is not seen as a threat.

Not sure I got that across the first time.

I think it releases the tensions that build up when one sees the world as to how we all hate each others and wonder why others hate us, even though we are so good and sweet!

Now , who believes he is not cute and sweet and the best in the world! Yes, just an inch!

Psychology!!!!

Success goes to the head of those who were always deprived and find their footing for a change!!

It applies to all, be he a Chinese/Indian/Pakistani/ Mongolese/ Japanese/ Patagonian or anyone!

Look how people gloat over their country acquiring new weapons, lethal the better!

But ask a real soldier of any country - he realises one more step toward being dead quicker! He is a patriot and willingly die, but the fact hits him harder than the internet warrior or the civilians who cheer him and goads him to his death so that they can feel proud that they are the best!!

I have spoken to Chinese officers privately on the border and we share the same views!

Who hates war? The soldier. Not because he is afraid of death. He feels sad over the number of lives lost over just national ego and that too over unproductive inch of land!

.
^^ Yes, I am still sad that a person who loved India turned into an anti Indian because of his online experience.

I apologize for that behavior by some Indians if that helps any.

.
Or is it just letting out and doing what they can't in real life?

If I wanted to be rude to the Indian minorities in Hong Kong, then I could easily do so.

I don't do that, because I despise racism.

Which, ironically, is the reason that I'm not a fan of the Indian members in this forum. With a few exceptions, yourself being one of them.

.
If I were to stoop to your level, I can talk a lot about how the British made you drug addicts, probably how they sacked your summer palace and other treasures. The centuries of humiliation.

I can talk of Japanese invasion of your country.

I can go further back in history. To the time of Mongols.

I take pleasure in none of that. I only feel the pain of the Chinese people from these barbarities.

You have been consumed by hate. I can only sympathize with you. May you get better. In the next birth if its not possible in this one.

Logically funny and illogical, so you can reach my height.

China has never been used by Japanese or British: them were enemies at that time. Hope you are sane on this.

I don't hate Indians, instead I love India: the origin of Buddhism, the origin of non-violence movement, vast local tradition and cultures… just imagine that! And my real time Indian friends are so sane, but I do have problem with some internet Indians who conduct internet violence and terrorism, a handful of them even expressed their longings to join the japanese raping of Nanking and blatantaly type "we just hate CHINESE"... Do you need screen shots?

You know, its a vicious cycle.

Many Indian members that you consider racist would probably have their own experiences (much like gpit's) that would make them behave in the way they do. That feeds more anger and hatreds on the other side and the cycle continues.

Some sane people can help bring it under control. It is difficult but possible.

Buddy, I apologize for any Indians that misbehaved with you on internet.

And no, I don't need anything. I love your country and I love your people and civilization.
