That is the point, I would prefer to delay it.
I am a great fan of Deng Xiaoping's advice, "keep a cool head, and maintain a low profile".
But the cat is already out of the bag, unfortunately. Now the problem is that people are actually overestimating us, by a wide margin.
One small example, a recent poll I saw in the Economist showed that more than half of the American population believed that China was already the biggest economy. When in fact we are FAR away from that point. We are still a developing country with a large amount of poverty and a low GDP per capita.
People are expecting too much of us, especially in terms of things like Climate change. Our carbon emissions per capita are still five times less than that of the Western world.
I think India can learn a lot from this experience. Better to let people underestimate you, rather than the other way around.
Buddy, i am sorry to tell you that I personally experienced several Indians in a now non-existing Indian forum many years ago. I guess I may still have screen shots and copy of their words in my local PC. I hate to present them to the world, but just let you know that an internet Indian called S.A.T.A. said he loved to join the Japanese in raping the Chinese when people lamenting Nanking Massacre. Another internet Indian, who looks like the owner called Field Marshal, blatantly said:we just hate CHINESE too many of these. They insulted anybody who praised China, they insulted and repeatedly banned a Swedish called Yuebaili because he loves the Chinese language, though he hates CPC and wants to split Tibet from China. A Taiwanese was humiliated and was dumped with dirtiest words only those Indians can invent not to mention limited Pakistanis or Bangladeshis used to be there.
Frankly, all of those non-SA people loved India so much before they had entered that forum: India, the origin of Buddhism, the origin of non-violence movement, vast local tradition and cultures just imagine that! There are couples of big Indian fools in recent India history, but which country doesnt have one or more. But not the ordinary people... it shouldnt go that way, the way of internet violence and terrorism.
Frankly, I was also banned by some Chinese forums several times due to my criticism and straightforwardness, but I never see forumers are got insulted in such an Indian way.
How understandable that your democracy mutates into a democrazy based on such constituency Yeah we know the quiet are the majority but they are being hijacked by a few through the process of democrazy controlled by the few.
Your being there helps take care of that to an extent.
I reply to Indian flamers in the same tone.
Don't take that as underestimation though. We of all people, should know the potential power of a large population combined with strong economic growth.
I am amazed how ordinary Indians and Chinese have become enemies on the internet!
In person, they get along pretty well. They even have respect for each other's country and civilizations.
What happens on the forums? Is there something to it? Is it all natural?
Or is it just letting out and doing what they can't in real life?

If I were to stoop to your level, I can talk a lot about how the British made you drug addicts, probably how they sacked your summer palace and other treasures. The centuries of humiliation.
I can talk of Japanese invasion of your country.
I can go further back in history. To the time of Mongols.
I take pleasure in none of that. I only feel the pain of the Chinese people from these barbarities.
You have been consumed by hate. I can only sympathize with you. May you get better. In the next birth if its not possible in this one.
If I wanted to be rude to the Indian minorities in Hong Kong, then I could easily do so.
I don't do that, because I despise racism.
Which, ironically, is the reason that I'm not a fan of the Indian members in this forum. With a few exceptions, yourself being one of them.

Logically funny and illogical, so you can reach my height.
China has never been used by Japanese or British: them were enemies at that time. Hope you are sane on this.
I don't hate Indians, instead I love India: the origin of Buddhism, the origin of non-violence movement, vast local tradition and cultures just imagine that! And my real time Indian friends are so sane, but I do have problem with some internet Indians who conduct internet violence and terrorism, a handful of them even expressed their longings to join the japanese raping of Nanking and blatantaly type "we just hate CHINESE"... Do you need screen shots?
