India’s $35 iPad Competitor Captures Hope, Challenges of Globalization

I bought a $129 Sylvania touch pad back in december. This was a sale price about $50 less than the regular price. The touch screen was more like thick screen, sometimes it just didn't even work. It updated the android version on its own, after that it just couldn't find the wireless signal anymore, the damn thing was on a endless loop.

I don't know how one can compare a $35 touchpad to ipad. It just maybe useful for folks that can't buy more fancy stuff.

.
Those who still did not "get it", it is for poor students.
It is for those who can not afford ANY computing device.

For others, it is going to be $60.

.
this is meant for the poorer section of the society and must be commended

India’s $2000 Mercedes Competitor Captures Hope, Challenges of Globalization.

The titel is as silly as calling a US$ 2000 Tata Nano a competitor of Mercedes. The Nano and the Mercedes S-Class are both cars, but the similarity stops right there.

read about it ;)

to most indians, they know jack of what is manufacturing and what are the major costs factors. they always put on sensational phrases like the world cheapest cars 'challenging' Mercedes or this one 'challenging' apples or whatever fancy brands they want to compare. it is just pathetic and mental-masturbating.

as you are in engineering field and you know it very well that for common consumer goods there are 4 major cost factors that determine the final price (not from textbook that indians like to quote)
material cost
labour cost
marketing cost
shipping cost

but for high end or luxury consumer goods the R&D investment will be added in like for autos and tablet.

so when you know anything how manufacturing works and to hear a $2000 nano car or £35 tablet, you'd know they are either rubbish quality (just like those things from 1 dollar or poundland) or a copy of existing products.

for example the quality raw material Mercedes to use, the advancement of the machines to produce, the modeling cost and the level of marketing campaign expenditure they spend on a certain model which will set a minimum price limit for each model, even hypothetically when it reaches the economy of scale or maximum production it still will not sell a car for just £2000.

Oh Genius, the fact is that you dont need too much R&D to make a car that you can drive around. You just need to put things together and pass the crash and safety tests .
Luxury car makers put too much stuff into cars that make it expensive.
What do you think they make their cars from? Adamantium? Carbonadium? I wouldn't be surprised if you thought so. :D

Lets take an expensive chinese car and crash it head on with a TATA Indica and lets see what happens. I would put my bet on the TATA anyday!:azn:

.
Of course this tablet =/= iPad. One is worth $35 and another is worth close to $600 (approx.). Did you think you were a genius for figuring this out?
