India, Russia to sign S-400 missile deal this week: Kremlin

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin will oversee the signing of a $5 billion deal this week to supply Delhi with S-400 air defence systems, a top Kremlin aide said on Tuesday ahead of Putin's trip to India.


"The

president is leaving for India on October 4
," Putin's top foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov told reporters.


"The key feature of this visit will be the signing of the agreement to deliver S-400 air defence systems," he said. "The value of the contract will be more than $5 billion."

Moscow has been negotiating to sell the S-400 long-range surface-to-air missiles to India for months.


India had earlier said that it will go ahead with the acquisition of the missiles from Russia despite pressure from the US.


The deal has irked US, which wants to wean Delhi off Russian technology. A senior Pentagon official said in August that sanctions against India would come under consideration if its purchase goes through.


A recent US law called

CAATSA
(Countering America's Adversaries through Sanctions Act) seeks to deter countries from buying Russian weapons.


India has signalled it will ask Washington for a special waiver from sanctions, though a US official last week said there is no guarantee it would do so.

Can't believe until the deal is signed.Pakistan has built up good reltaionships with Russia over the period of time.Moreover they are the part of China,Russia and Iran Nexus.In addition to that Imran Khan has come to power who has clout over the world.Pakistan can stop this deal if they pressurise Russia.

India cannot pump as much money as Pakistan can pump in Russian economy after CPEC.Imran is another factor who is good looking.Modi is nowhere close to Imran in looks so Pakistan has upper hand over all when it comes to diplomacy or overall relationship with West or Russia.

YES India is the U.S bitch in Asia to try and take on China and regional countries

China already has S400 and had it for years

India has also been a cash cow for Russia after repeated indian weapons failures anx this continues

India whinged and cried infront of the U.S and in return for reduction in Iranian oil they allowed S400 purchase

Pakistan is right next door with 150 nuclear warheads and growing fast with array of missiles
This system is a threat to china and Pakistan will work with China to keep india as a big target and circumnavigate its defences including S400 when it eventually gets inducted, if it gets inducted that is

We have those because we work hard for our defence and try to make things inhouse

If india had better planning you wouldn't have failed Arjun tanks
Or you would have made more then 1 LCA in last 6 months
Or a alternative to insas

I do agree with you.You not only have competitive defence industry but you are miles ahead of India in almost all things be it automobile industry,be it research,IT sector,agriculture industry or economy reforms.If India can learn a thing or two from you then we can also have a bright future.
