Police in Mumbai today released the identities and home addresses in Pakistan of the nine dead gunmen who allegedly attacked India's financial centre last month - in a move apparently intended to increase the pressure on the Pakistani government.

The news comes as Pakistani ministers offered Indian officials the chance to interview those detained in Sunday's raids on militant camps as part of a "joint investigation".

In custody are two Islamist leaders - Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Zakiur Rehman Lakhwi, blamed for the attack on Mumbai last month, and the head of Jaish-e- Mohammad, Masood Azhar, who is accused of masterminding a strike on the Indian parliament in 2001.

Pakistan's defence minister, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, took to the airwaves in India saying that officials from Delhi may be allowed to interrogate both suspects.

"Lakhwi was picked up ... Azhar has also been picked up. We will help India in joint investigations ... India may be allowed to interrogate these people also," he said.

Delhi has spurned previous offers from Pakistan for a "joint investigation", saying it wants Islamabad to hand over fugitives from Indian law who are accused of being behind terror strikes in India.

In a move designed to keep the pressure on Islamabad, police in India say they have pieced together more details of the nine dead militants, saying they were young Pakistani men between the age of 20 and 28.

Two of the men were from Okara district, three from Multan, two from Faisalabad and one was from Sialkot. Only one gunmen survived, Mohammad Ajmal Amir Iman, who remains in custody.

The leader of the group is said to have been Ismail Khan, whose home is in Dera Ismail Khan - a town in the lawless area near the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of Mumbai police, told journalists that his expertise with GPS marked him out.

"This was not his first operation for the Lashkar," he said, referring to the armed Islamist group blamed by India for the Mumbai terror attack. India says that for years it was Pakistani policy to use guerrilla groups such as Lashkar as proxies in the conflict over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir.

Indian ministers were quick to point out that President Asif Ali Zardari's crackdown on militant groups operating in its half of Kashmir - a first by Pakistan - was "something that need to be done in Pakistan's own interests".

Official sources say that Pakistan's detention of two "terrorists" was "just a first step". The sources pointed out that Azhar has been detained by Pakistan at least twice in the past, but released after "a few months".

In an article for the New York Times, Zardari used strong language to commit himself to an anti-terror strategy. He wrote that as "demonstrated in Sunday's raids, which resulted in the arrest of militants, Pakistan will take action against the non-state actors found within our territory, treating them as criminals, terrorists and murderers".

Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch has released pictures of 10 men, suspected to be the terrorists involved in the Mumbai terror attacks of November 26.

The pictures along with their aliases and the areas they belong to have now been compiled into a dossier that is being sent to the Central agencies.

One of them, Mohd Kasab is already in custody of security agencies.
The Mumbai Police claim the IDs found on them have a direct link to Pakistan.

The terrorists who were involved in the attack on the Chhattrapti Shivaji Terminus are:

1. Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab alias Abu Mujahid Resident of Okara. He was caught alive and is in government custody.

2. Ismail Khan alias Abu Ismail, resident of Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan.

The terrorists believed to have been involved in the siege on the Taj Hotel are:

3. Hafeez Arshad alias Abdul Rehman Bada, resident of Multan, Pakistan.
4. Javed alias Abu Ali, resident of Okara, Pakistan.
5. Shoaib alias Soaib R/O Narowal Sialkot, Pakistan.
6. Nazeer alias Abu Umer R/O Faizalabad, Pakistan.

The terrorists believed to have been involved in the Nariman House attack:

"Shoaib, who was 20-years-old was the youngest of the group while Nasir was the oldest at 28," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said.Nasir is suspected to have been married and his wife either died or divorced him, he said, adding that the average age of the members of the group was between 23 to 25 years.Nasir, Nazeer and Ismail Khan, allegedly the leader of the group, had participated in terror missions earlier, Maria said. The lone terrorist captured alive, Mohammed Ajmal Amir, was initially identified as 'Kasab,' and he quickly became the face of the Mumbai terror attacks. His associate, now identified as Ismail Khan, was shot dead by the police near Chowpatty in south Mumbai during the early hours of Nov 27. Ismail Khan's picture and actions were also captured on some closed circuit TVs installed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) before he escaped with Amir to the nearby Cama and Albless Hospital, then to Metro cinema hall, from there to Nariman Point and finally to Chowpatty. The three who laid siege at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel were: Bada Abdul Rehaman, Abu Ali and Abu Soheb. The Taj operation was the longest and bloodiest of all at the 13 sites which were attacked during the terror strike. The duo killed at Nariman House in Colaba, where they laid a bloody siege to a Jewish place of worship, necessitating airdropping of commandos, are identified as Nasir alias Abu Umer and Babar Imaran alias Abu Akasha. The two terrorists killed in the attack at the Oberoi Trident Hotel have been identified as Fahad Ullah and Abdul Rehaman Chhota. Further investigations are underway to get the full background details of the nine killed terrorists, their associates and probably local support.(Report PTI, IANS)

These guys look so young.

How can someone be called Abu Ali and Abu Soheb? These are Arabic type title/names given when someone becomes a father.

The father of Ali would be called Abu Ali. The father of Soheb would be called Abu Soheb. Has someone investigated that they have children with those names?

Four of them look Indian. In any case. Let's see what the research says. If they're alive in Pakistan, it's not true. If they're from Pakistan they'll have family in Pakistan, they can be interviewed by ISI.

LOL, and now they've changed from Qasab to Iman again.

lol. Those last 4 look stereotypically Indian.

But let's wait. We have names. ISI should be onto this.

Yes, you're the expert on passing judgment based on 'stereotypes' which seem to exist solely in your own mind.

Ive seen Pakistanis ranging from black to wheat colored. From African looking to Meditteranean . BTW, no islamic groups have performed burial rites for these murderers !!

They should be fed to the vultures and the remaining bones should be sent back via the Samjhauta Exp

Hey Vanguard
Mild sarcasm is ok. Why u have to be so crass & inflammatory.
Are'nt we trying to get the co-operation of GoP to investigate this, notwithstanding whatever prejudices we have.

I have seen so many planted evidence that I hardly believe evidence from official Indian sources. Excuse me when I say that the amaturistic level is relative known.

But I agree that the attack was unhumane but... In wartime both sides are unhumane otherwise iw would have not been an act of war. The opposite has probably not able to defend against it in a normal way...

So terrorism is not an action force but a reaction force. Wrong but still logical to explain and probably good enough for sides to make unlimited offers.
