Just for a change, I am feeling perhaps this could have been a good opportunity for India to solve Kashmir problem peacefully. Given the Chinese stake in West Kashmir and Punjab, perhaps a talk on turning the status quo into a permanent boundary would look lucrative to the Chinese.

A few things to consider here:

1. We should consider China & Pakistan as 'same team'....so Chinese involvement only strengthens Pakistan, they get a friend by their side on the negotiating table, and we get one more adversary across the table. And once they are in, we cannot control what stand they take. Besides, it sets a precedence for other 3rd parties to interfere in this bilateral issue.

2. Chinese policy is "What is ours is ours, what is yours is negotiable".......so keeping the point of 'same team' in mind, if we first give away what we claim by making that LOC an international border, thereby legitimizing Chinese CPEC project; we lose our bargaining cheap and leverage against China without gaining anything. I am of the opinion that all other pending border disputes with China need to be solved first before we give away our claim on disputed land, whether with China or with Pakistan through which Chinese project runs..

3. Giving away our claim on parts of J&K will have significant political cost for whichever party in power, it changes our map, so it won't be easy. Only thing that can minimize that apprehension of the political party in power is a favourable border settlement in other parts of the country, that should come first.
