We have already started the rescue mission of our country form the basics and we know we will pay much more than we imagine right now, there is no other option left. If the condition in Afghanistan remains like right now the Ideology of terror that is prepared in the West and is applied by our relatives(neighbors) will affect all our the world including their own homeland.

If Taliban wants to return to power, then they have to participate in the next elections and both PAK and US must send it's observers to make sure a free and fair elections are being conducted. It would show the world how much popular support they enjoy.

I share your concerns, however the dynamics of Afghanistan's problems are not limited to the extremist ideology. We face a host of different critical issues when it comes to Afghanistan apart from the extremism.

Those issues are the ones i pointed out to, in my previous post. For instance, we have an Afghanistan with an extremely low level of literacy rate, rampant/chronic corruption, inter-ethnic feuds, Narcotics, broken infrastructure and non existent political unity, all of whom are imperative to form the critical organs of the state.

What also must be understood is that whether we like it or not, the extremism is here to stay for the foreseeable future & it cannot be dealt with by the use of military force alone. For counter extremism we need to work together, for at least 2 more decades to deny the extremists the narratives that they are able to sell & recruit.

It is a problem that as much as we would like to solve over night, cannot be solved in a short span of time. If Afghanistan is to stand as a credible state, it must build peace with the insurgent groups and slowly bring change from within. Pakistan's Qatar initiative was a step in that direction to start a process which leads to reconciliation between the insurgent groups, the south and Kabul govt.

Afghanistan has a bright future, only if it realizes its own potential and avoids conflict. It is extremely unfortunate what Afghans have been subjected to, for the last 3 decades by foreign invaders, test tube political jigsaws and the domestic violence. Lastly, we Pakistanis will be with Afghanistan all the way and one day it will be a land of peace and stability, because that is what guarantees peace and stability in our country too.

The Afghans need all the help that they can get, real change has happened on the ground - small industries, offices, children specially girls going to school, women going to work, The Afghans will not let this change be taken away by the Taliban and neither will the international community.

A strong and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of All Civilized country's and India. And this can only be possible if ANA will be strong enough to thwart the attacks by Taliban with the help of pakistan.

And i have always believed that Taliban can only be defeated by Afghans themselves.

The ANA Officer Core is incapable of even organizing a defensive posture, let alone carry out offensive operations against a well trained foe such as PA. If even at the height of its power, the ANA was routed out by local tribesman and FC, what makes you think the situation is going to be any different today?

The Indians still have minuscule presence in Afghanistan. Training a few officers here and there and providing some measly funds is not going to buy them the influence they are expecting to receive. NATO spends about $80 billion a month in Afghanistan, the Indians in their deluded mind think that they will gain the same influence by only spending a total of $2 billion. Why do you think the Indians are dead scared about the Taliban coming back to power? All that money spent will go down to waste if the Taliban even manage to gain control of any major districts.

The Afghans need Pakistan a lot more than Pakistan needs Afghanistan. The Afghans know that Pakistan's patience will only go so far. Pakistan has the ability to starve Afghanistan, make matters worse for it by cutting off trade and sending back all the Afghans residing in Pakistan. How do you think the Afghans will cope if Pakistan cuts of all trade and sends back an exodus of 3 million people. Pakistan also has the ability to mine the entire border with Afghanistan to achieve security on its borders, but has so far restrained from it.

You describe excellent points Sir.

However, the end result is going to be that the tussle for control and war by proxy will move to Afghanistan, and tie up our resources there for the foreseeable future, leaving India to concentrate on consolidating its hold on Kashmir. They will do that by slowly building up their presence and assistance in Afghanistan, and inflaming the already raw sensibilities in FATA and Baluchistan.

Further, our responses, possible as they are like you mention, will be muted due to the fact that our economic situation will be held to ransom if we were to contemplate anything remotely effective to deal with the situation. Therefore, we will not be able to block trade or send back refugees or mine the border, since we will have to trade those off for subsistence of our major population centers.

Post 2014, Afghanistan will become the side-show as a prelude to the main event, which will be Pakistan.
