What's new

India plans to invest $3b in Bangladesh.

. .

I respect your viewpoint but you are apparently new to the Bharatiya dhokeybaaji game.

With time you will understand.....

My point was that there is Zero value addition to our coffers when all is said and done.

They are doing this to expand the sale of Indian products in our market when it should be the other way round, and done immediately.

We have a severe trade imbalance for the last three decades.

They are taking advantage of our innate sense of trust and innocence.

How many Bangladeshi companies do you see manufacturing in India??
1) Every foreign investment directly or indirectly affects the recipient country's economy.

2) Every company invests for their own goal. If people didn't use Indian products the companies wouldn't need to expand in the first place.

3) Decreasing trade imbalance is not Indians' job, it's our companies.

4) They are taking advantage of our deep pockets that can and is willing to spend on their products.

5) What would we sell in India that needs our companies to invest and manufacture in India?

I agree at least on the trade barrier Indian govt. imposes is worthy of criticism but that's a govt. to govt. matter isn't it?

. .
@Nilgiri

I am going to report you to mods :P

Bangladesh is progressing and thats good for everyone. Many manufacturing industries from pakistan had shifted to Bangladesh after the energy crisis in Pakistan.

Textiles=/= real manufacturing.

Textiles are going to become fully automated soon. No one is going to set up a high tech factory in a country that gets electricity 2 hours out of the day. They're going to move soon in the coming years.

Lies, lies and more lies.................

But then again - we're talking about Indian trolls.

Guys just ignore these pests.

That's the stupidest thing I have read on this forum...and the things I have come across on this forum set the bar on stupidity.

Foreign direct investment whether for domestic consumption or export is ALWAYS beneficial to the host economy. That is how it always starts.

Apple is setting up its factory in India to sell iphones to Indians. And we are giving them a crap load of exemptions and help to set up their factory.

If our Government was like you we'd have said no, don't make it here You "are taking advantage of our innate sense of trust and innocence. "

Such stupidity should be made illegal. However, I thank God that the Bangladeshi Government does not have a single person like you.

@Sybaris Caeser tagging you because you seem to be smarter than this chap Bilal.

Sybaris has already posed questions in #19 that Butthurt Bilal won't answer :D

You do know the story about the boy who cried wolf right?

1) Every foreign investment directly or indirectly affects the recipient country's economy.
This is a theory which does not apply in Bangladesh's Indian investments. Investments from India in Bangladesh are geared toward making Bangladesh dependent on Indian sub-par goods because the raw-materials are just across the border. All they do is bring in semi-manufactured items and they are minimally finished locally, so the value addition doesn't help Bangladesh at all. Obviously you don't come from an industrialist family in Bangladesh otherwise you wouldn't quote these theories. Theories don't run the world, people do. I don't want to sound harsh, but you have to decide whose side you are on, jobs and development for Bangladeshis (regardless of religion/politics) as opposed to those for Indians. You have your opinion, but having a Bangladeshi identity and continually going to bat for India is at odds to a lot of people, including myself. I am sorry. My people and jobs/livelihood for them come first.

To quote examples - I'd ask you to provide actual proof on how investments by these fraudulent companies (Marico, CEAT etc.) have provided a benefit to our economy (long or short term).

2) Every company invests for their own goal. If people didn't use Indian products the companies wouldn't need to expand in the first place.

People in Bangladesh don't 'need' Indian products. The 'need' has been artificially created over the last four decades because as a country we have an import culture as opposed to creating jobs locally. We should create our own import substitution products rather than use low quality Indian products, if needed with ToT from China. It is happening already but as Bangladeshis we are a bit non-enterprising in some areas.

The 'goal' of these Indian companies is to halt development of Bangladeshi industry, not the opposite. Indians just use minimal labor input to sell products locally. They will not spend one paisa on developing local suppliers, linkages or anything. This has been proven for over four decades now. We have seen enough of this Indian dhokeybaazi and trickery.

3) Decreasing trade imbalance is not Indians' job, it's our companies.

True but sometimes trade imbalance is forced upon us. Our products have been met by severe non-tariff barriers in Indian market. Talk to Rahim-Afrooz for example who have been fighting illegal countervailing duty in India for two decades. Same with almost a dozen other categories. Please try to be aware of these situations before commenting.

4) They are taking advantage of our deep pockets that can and is willing to spend on their products.

If we have deep pockets - then we can spend it on better quality products than Indian ones. Our dependency on Indian products is a disease we have to cure as a nation. Down-market products we can make ourselves. Who needs Chaywanprash, Parachute (Marico) coconut oil and Britannia garbage cookies? You're saying we can't make these? I am surprised the govt. has not started placing tariff on these categories and tyres and automotive parts as well. Indian lobbying in our govt. is unbelievable.

5) What would we sell in India that needs our companies to invest and manufacture in India?

The entire Northwest is open for us to explore with our products as well as all of Bengal and eastern India. Pran and other FMCG products are already well established in these markets.

Northwest is very cost-prohibitive for rest of India to ship to shipping and logistics wise whereas it is very close to Sylhet. And we are opening up transit for rest of India and making it easier for India shipping-wise to reach that market. Instead of giving India transit, we should ask India to permit Bangladeshi companies to open up that market for Bangladeshi products of all kinds.

I agree at least on the trade barrier Indian govt. imposes is worthy of criticism but that's a govt. to govt. matter isn't it?

No its a matter of leverage. And political discourse. If Govt. policy defers too much to India then this Govt. deserves to be de-stabilized and it better heed what people actually want.

Except that Indians don't use FDI to make iPhones or high value electronic products in Bangladesh.

Indian industrialists are not Apple.

They are the likes of CEAT, Brittania and MARICO selling garbage products like low class coconut oil and cookie items. How are making these products locally helping our people?

Your examples are as 'Gandhey' as your snivelly attitude.

Before you reply to him @Sybaris Caeser , remember this loony thinks India is 100% behind planning and execution of Gulshan terror attacks to destabilise BD economy:

https://defence.pk/threads/u-s-reve...ent-buyers-in-bangladesh.472263/#post-9102717

Continuing to preach one set of rules and standards for India, and another set for everyone else regarding investment into BD (as though anyone other than India is really interested in day to day supply chain stuff in BD):D. No surprise there at all. Again it will be thrown back in his face by BAL and SHW :P

I am only content that he will be forced to see the reality of his "govt" and "country" for the rest of his miserable life.

He must be getting pretty mad inside to be making such typos too:

M5NOcnY.jpg

Its funny how he's been harping about this for years now and nothing happens on the ground. Typing it even more into the same forum will obv change it soon....just you wait and see!

If Govt. policy defers too much to India then this Govt. deserves to be de-stabilized and it better heed what people actually want.

Check it out @madokafc ...stability is BAD for BD because it "defers" to India too much

BD BAL govt must be destabilised! Lets get on with it BD patriots! Ramp-al it up 1000 times more, or million times more!
