Last year, the Indian government approved the private sector to produce ammunition as part of the "Make in India" program. The defense ministry floated a tender from a domestic private manufacturer for the supply of a range of ammunition.

The list includes 125mm armor-piercing types for T-90 & T-72, 40mm multiple grenade launcher/underbarrel grenade launcher ammo, 30mm ammunition used by armored infantry carrying vehicle, 122mm grad rockets for Pinaka series and bi-modular charge system.

Twenty-five Indian companies responded to the request issued by the ministry last November. Indian companies can form a joint venture with foreign companies to produce such items under complete transfer of technology agreement. Russian company Rosoboronexport, Rheinmetall Defense, Diehl Defense of Germany and Elbit of Israel may form a joint venture with Indian companies for the production.

which private players in India have the Tech to produce ammo? if you are a company which wants to participate in this bid, you can form a joint venture with a company that has the know how.
also, this can be used by foreign players to manufacture in India by partnering with Indian manufacturing firms. This brings in tech and capital into India.

not sure how advanced Indian Ammo manufacturers are, but Ammo has reached higher sophistication levels and the pace of their maturity is growing more rapidly.

Thats just one player. you ll need multiples to create a wide range of ammo. The sheer variety of equipment you have in the inventory itself creates a big head ache on the multple types of ammo each equipment can take (and the associated R & D to improve each one of them or make better ammo)

They don't cost upwards on 100000rs per round for nothing..

The only reason our private players are not able to make small arms and ammunition is because they are not allowed to by the way of super stringent gun laws.
I seriously hope the Arms Act of 59 and Arms Rules of 62 are amended to include private players for freely R&D and manufacturing of guns and ammunition for use by military only, so that we don't have to buy from all over the world.
