India must respect Vienna convention on Italy envoy's immunity says EU

So, EU has entered the arena..

Curious to see how much EU wants to get wet, and some posters did say that this will not go easy for Italy..
The EU is a lame duck. It's literally falling apart what with countries from Spain to Greece heading for bankruptcy. The UK has c0cked a snook at the EU too. What does it have to pressurize India with? Nix!

Bottom line: The EU should mind its own bloody business and stop acting like a referee. Like David trying to warn Goliath to behave or else.....!! :omghaha: Jeeeez!

As a matter of fact, a diplomat enjoys immunity (the Vienna Convention) and does not stand under host country jurisdiction.
So even if the Italian envoy lies, he does not violate Indian law.

Not as simple. You could do well to read the points that have been raised.

That is the wrong argument. It may turn out that the authorities in India were w rong. However that does not excuse deceit perpetrated at the highest levels by the government of Italy & its representatives in India. That is the only point that must be raised.

Even the highlighted part happens India has every right to conduct trial in its soil.

Indians are famous for making empty statements i hope next time EU will convey message in different tone.

Supreme court of India has decided that Italian ambassador will be responsible for all this mess.
Supreme court is not Kongress govt which will bow down to Italians (as they did with Bofors dalal)
Honestly speaking, the Supreme court of India cannot hold him responsible. He acts on behalf of his government. If anything, than you should sue the Italian government.

We should have a law, since he represents his country we should sue him! :D

I remember an article at the beginning of the Italian marine saga which said that the govt could not afford to be seen offering concessions to the marines due to Italian origins of Sonia Gandhi.

With the marines now absconding, I would imagine that with the general elections only a few months away, there is even greater pressure on Congress to deliver as a soft approach could hurt the credentials of the party chief.

He is the Italian Govt. so as to say.

An ambassador represents his govt. overseas. Whatever actions he take or whatever he says are interpreted as the actions & words of his/her govt.

He has signed the dotted line on the behalf of his Govt. in Italy, so SC will hold him responsible as it has taken a personal guarantee of Marines return from the ambassador.

22nd March is key date to remember here. Ude baad Italian ambassador di khair :sniper:
