Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday said the country must be prepared for a potential two-front war with China and Pakistan as reconciliation with the latter looked bleak.

Referring to the recent 10-week standoff with the Chinese army in the Himalayas, Rawat said the situation on India’s northern border could worsen in future, in which case Pakistan on the western front could take advantage of the situation.

China says it hopes India will ‘learn lessons’ from standoff

According to the Press Trust of India, Rawat said credible deterrence did not take away the threat of war. “Nuclear weapons are weapons of deterrence. Yes, they are. But to say that they can deter war or they will not allow nations to go to war, in our context that may also not be true,” PTI quoted him as saying.

“We have to be prepared. In our context, therefore, warfare lies within the realm of reality,” said Rawat.

China and India agreed last week to de-escalate a more than two-month-old stand-off on their disputed border, just in time for the kick-off of a summit of the BRICS grouping of nations, which also includes Brazil, Russia and South Africa.

China has said its forces will continue to patrol in Doklam, known in Chinese as Donglang, and Wang added that he hoped India had learned a lesson from the incident. India and China have deep historical and cultural connections, but relations have seesawed since they fought a brief border war in 1962. Modi refused to join President Xi Jinping’s signature Belt and Road initiative to knit together Asia and beyond, making India the lone country to boycott a summit in Beijing in May.

China warns India over longest bridge on border

Besides the festering border dispute, which also covers areas at the other end of the frontier close to Pakistan, China and India have a series of disagreements. India is deeply suspicious of China’s close relationship with arch rival Pakistan, and of its growing military activities in and around the Indian Ocean, such as its first overseas
military base in Djibouti. In recent months India has upset China over the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, who lives in India and is reviled by Beijing as a separatist.

I hope Rawat is right.

there is no solution of doubts. Rawat do you still believe that either Pakistan & china wants war with India? if you think then you are living in the heaven of fools. Pakistan, India & china knows if they are going to battle ground then all are going to loss military strength. and going to loss economy so that 3rd enemy will defiantly take advantage.

i must say rawat is war-monger. what india need to understand is that if India stop Pakistani water. if India continue her brutally in kashmir with kashmiris. if India keep supporting proxies against Pakistan then there will be defiantly war between India & Pakistan and 3rd enemy will surely take advantage. so India should overcome the issues with Pakistan. because it's totally depends on India. as we know it's India who control J&k, it's India who is going to divert water flow, it's India who is funding to terrorists organizations against Pakistan. it's India who is backing Afghanistan to not secure the Durand Line. that's why it's depend on India either India wants peace or war.

There is nothing wrong in preparing for a two front war. Better be prepared, than be sorry.

Until the time Pakistan is Muslim, India Hindu...we will always remain enemies. It is waste living in fools paradise that if Kashmir, Saichen, Sir Creek and Water are solved...everything will become normal between India and Pakistan...because it will not...the main reason is Hindus and Muslims hate each other to core even if they are not explicit.

.
Last time I heard India was already prepared like a bride for a 2.5 front war.

Every country has the right to defend itself, preparing for war on two front is no bad thing but there won't be any two front war

i dont think that Hindus & Muslims hate each other from the core of their heart. many Hindus and Muslims are my friends in my friends circle. the same Hindus & Muslims have been living together since long time and there were no issue before. this hate is being deliberately exploited between Hindus & Muslims. we have Mullahs from Madrasass and you have RSS mindsets which need to be eradicate. Pakistan & India always fight just because of Kashmir so practically it's a Land issue. but this land issue soon be religious by Indian side because of your current Govt who supports hindutva mindsets like RSS & bajran Dal.

if this issue will be converted into religious then India has to suffer most. because of this Hindus & Muslims hates you have to boycott all the Muslim countries too in future just because of your this mindset. whether it's chabahar port, investment in Afghanistan, Oil Trading etc...

The issue between India and Pakistan is all about religion. In fact the main reason why Pakistan was formed was because of the religion: that Hindus and Muslims cannot live together. Discounting religion between Pakistan and India means questioning the very basis on which Jinnah asked for Pakistan.

As I said living in fools paradise is waste of time....and recognize the reality that you cannot take out religion between India and Pakistan. IMO, the present state of conditions between India and Pakistan will continue for foreseeable future.

Well if its Hindu Muslim issue, than its problem only for India. Pakistan has negligible Hindu community, on the other hand India has huge Muslim population which they can never get rid off. I think it would be very dangerous to give it a religious color esp for India. Ideally Pakistan would want that. Pakistan can never disrupt Indian unless India destroys itself internally through communal violence . I remember words of former Indian PM M Singh saying that biggest problem for India is its internal threat, where he was referring to religious and communal issues which are deep rooted in India's long history.

. .
2.5 Front to be exact.

@ Chief Justice Of Pakistan

The government does not highlight the imposed war by India.

Please declare war on India. Its been over 110 days since India's systematic genocide in Kashmir entered Phase 2.

Thanks
