India may talk to ISI, Taliban

It seems though pretty early that Pakistan has checkmate India in the Afghanistan game play and if we continue, we can make sure that India will leave Afghanistan for good.
My only worry is the GOP because its not clear what their agenda is, certainly not of Pakistan that is.

.
If this is true, then this would further undermine civilian institutions and make the people of Pakistan forced to face the consequences of the policies taken by their security establishment instead of their elected reps.

Unfortunately, talking to ISI is just strengthening a state within the state instead of strengthening the civilian institutions. It doesn't report to the parliament and at least it seems that it has any checks and balances. Maybe GoI thinks this is the only stopgap for now.

.
No doubt, India was exploiting the Pakistan & Afghan Gov. relations differences due to taliban support in past.
This is the first time after arresting afghan taliban leaders in Pakistan,Their relationships shedding the doubts and getting them closer in strategic partner against taliban terrorist.
This turning point is really teasing for India and have a panic of losing a billions dollars investment in Afghanistan.

India rethinking Afghan policy

* NSC meeting mulls engaging Taliban, interacting with Pak Army, intelligence
* India says it won’t scale down Afghan operations in wake of Kabul attack

By Iftikhar Gilani

NEW DELHI: India is planning to open channels of communication with the Afghan Taliban to remain relevant, in the wake of the Western pullout and the fast deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.

Media reports suggest that a host of options were discussed at a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC), chaired by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on February 12, which included engaging the Taliban and opening channels of communication directly with the Pakistan Army and its intelligence to ensure safety of its citizens and interests in Kabul. Experts called it a “cold” and “hard” reality.

Intelligence experts have also asked the Indian government to explore alternative political pastures as Afghan President Hamid Karzai was too week to stand the Western pullout. The NSC meeting also decided to step up diplomatic efforts to involve Iran, Russia and Central Asian Republics to prevent handing over of Afghanistan to Pakistan on a platter.

They described Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir’s tough talking during the recently-concluded talks in New Delhi as an indicator of these “realities”, which has boosted Pakistan’s confidence.

Recently, India’s former deputy national security adviser Satish Chandra had also questioned New Delhi’s treatment of the Taliban as “untouchables”. He revealed that during former premier Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure, contacts had been established with militants, including warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. “Once in power, the Taliban’s national interests will inevitably over time lead them to view us more favourably unless we treat them as untouchables. This has been true of most regimes in Afghanistan and may well be true of the Taliban if we play our cards right and do not gratuitously rub them the wrong way,” he added.

Operations: Separately, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash on Saturday said India would not scale down its operations in Afghanistan in the wake of the February 26 attack in Kabul.

Thats a good news, but id rather not take anything from ibn or general india media for granted. This is exactly the kind of propaganda india needs to get its citizens riled up for fighting a war in Afghanistan if need be. But then again they might be serious but to me considering india's policies it seems more of a propaganda to create hysteria

Sometimes things can be as they seem. No need to build up stupid illogical conspiracy theories for every news you hear. Anyways, I don not think the west will just pack up their bags and leave, and allow a regime change, after fighting for a decade.

look up vietnam then and i agree this could be an actual suggestion on the table but our policy makers should be as cautious as they can regarding this matter. If India and US come to talk, one thing we can know for sure is that it wont be out of goodwill.. this world doesnt run on goodwill

It does not. The table is a place where both the parties have to find their gains and move on. The table does not benifit the Indians alone, Pakistan can use it to their gains also! Its about give and take, so where is the issue of goodwill?
Vietnam was a different case altogether. This time they have waged a so called "war on terror"in the eyes of their people. Coming back would mean that "terror" prevailed. lol .. It will not happen buddy. Think practically.

indians have really lost it. What makes them think that Pakistan's Army and Pakistan's Intelligence Agency gives a damn about india's interests in Kabul.

Pakistan's interest is to kick india out of Afghanistan for good.

Well first its not us who is aproaching RAW its India that is reaching out to ISI, so lets just make that point clear first. India wants to talk because something has either come up or they have seen or predicted a future outcome and therefore are trying to act preemptively to avoid being in a difficult position in near future.

We have fought our war, in the next few months Pakistan's Armed forces will have completely uprooted the TTP. That is another point that i find intriguing regarding this indian gesture or whatever truth there might be in the speculation. But its interesting to say the least that this offer from India comes at a time when Pakistan has effectively and almost completely rid itself of TTP, a year ago such a gesture from India would have been ridiculed at by the very government thats thinking of proposing it and that was a time when future for Pakistan looked very bleak. Now the "tables" have turned, or rather are turning..a move to approach "ISI" forget the GOP in itself symbolises the unrest among indian ranks regarding the future outcome of this conflict

Again its all hypothetical, this news might just be a speculation and therefore something far more sinister might be cookin up

As for the vietnam its the same thing, the perspective for both wars is the same. And your argument regarding if the states is going to be in Afghanistan forever ? i think the past two three years have been a good indication of how much more toll states can take

India should instead help millions of indians living in utter poverty in india.

India is not U.S.A., it never was and never will be. Wake up and smell the coffee.

India is a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY with MILLIONS living BELOW the Poverty Line.

Imagine how much india would've helped its own people by spending all that money and time on its own indian people rather than Afghanistan, too bad now its all going to go to waste :hang2:

So this the best you can say....
Your nations stats are not better then india. Pakistan is counted as third word nation as well. Their is no chance that you will come out of this third word tag very soon.

Non of wiser head i can see have understood what india is trying to do in Afghanistan. Keep pouring in your pathetic views i hope indian in AF will do better then those who are just venting off anti india stomach gas from their mouths. For Pakistani members information we are not packing our bags now rather we are talking to your ISI directly hope you will understand the difference.

Little hint: We are aware what will happen to our talks with ISI, we have no pressure in packing our bags and talking to ISI, pressure is one few others.

now i have to go and clean my AK
Ohhhh...i am scared how many 'Goliyan' you have in your Ak 'santalee'. You are talking like a terrorist...use your AK santalee on those who are fearlessly ransacking your cities with bombs. Don't pretend to be like Afghanistan mujahideen cause you are not..Get some life, be real....
