India may resort to stapled visa to Tibetans

We have to strike a balance between defence and progress. Excess of anything is bad.

Exactly. :thinktank:

For the record, I think it was wrong to have denied the visa to the Indian general. The reason being that no-one benefited from the action.

I think the officials who made that decision to deny the visa, under-estimated the emotional impact it would cause, and the degree to which it would negatively impact Sino-Indian relations.

The Indian government needs to be more assertive. It's depressing to see read about these "threats" to China muttered under one's breath where no one but Indians hears them. Hell if I were Indian I'd love to see some large scale military drills in Kashmir or a doubling of the defence expenditure or some provocative remarks made by a senior defence official.

And falls into Sino-Pak propaganda over Kashmir as disputed territory!!!
Thanks for your suggestion but no thanks.

Then come to India as a tourist. Visit this country. You'll be surprised. You will find pity, awe, respect, anger, happiness and other conflicting emotions in you all at the same time.

Interaction is the best way to remove misunderstandings. It's worked for so many westerners. I'm sure it'll work for you too.

It's basic human psychology. We fear and hate things we do not know be them aliens, UFO's or even nations!

That's why I said, engagement is the key!

This is totally crossing the direction, but I agree with your attitude.

Our response at the strategic level cannot remain confined to the suspension of military exchanges. It has to go beyond that. We had recognised Tibet as an integral part of China. We have shown good faith in adhering to that position. China has not shown good faith on the issue of J&K being an integral part of India. The time has come for us to re-examine our position in matters relating to Tibet. We have to make it clear to Beijing that our continued adherence to our present position on Tibet would depend on its respecting our sensitivities in matters relating to J&K, PakOK and GB. If it does not respect our core interests in relation to J &K, PakOK and GB, it cannot expect us to continue to respect its core interests relating to Tibet.

A starter in the re-examination of our Tibetan policy, we should make evident the seriousness of our unhappiness with Beijing on this issue by immediately associating His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the project for the revival of the Nalanda University.

tibet is not a colony to be sold nor is it a disputed territory, as no one is disputing it with us.

however, there is at least 1 other claimant to kashmir, therefore it is a disputed territory.

now if GoI wants to claim tibet, and make it a disputed territory, then we can start talking, otherwise the tibet issue is closed. tell your corrupt politicians to claim tibet if you feel so strongly!

I think that's a good step, i.e. threatening to review the Tibetan policy.

That would be a very strong diplomatic response.

I hope there is no escalation beyond that point though.

Let us see GoI balls in dealing with Tibet and it will make 1962 look like a comedy movie. And not to forget atleast half the world coming to support China in its claim of soverginty breach. The big players like USA and bankrupt europe are likely to sit quiet for economic reasons.

Tibet is a de facto closed issue. The DL is just a political football that the US kicks around, India joining in won't change much but feel free to, if you can convince the GoI to grow a pair.

You dont have a clue of whats happening around and only knows something happened in 1962 , right???

Quite understandable.

There's actually a great 1962 thread in the China subforum right now. Very informative.

Please provide him the links so that he can "contribute" constructively as always.

Repeat. Some Indians do not know the reality. China and loose India are different, you can bring only small problems, However, China has the action, then India will not just be an annoyance.Do not waste the goodwill of China, really.
