India may Drop Russia Completely

Everybody needs everybody Moscow...Thats the truth..Russia cant exist alone.nor india nor china nor PAK.The main strength of US doesn lie in US alone but because of the backing of so many countries..Japan,Canada,Australia n all europe...Please grow up..

I do doubt that Western armament manufacturers r manipulating public opinion in India against Russian Armament by funding papers n Tv channels...There s so much money in this armament business that they just cant leave it to pure morally capitalist competition..

But diversifying armament procurement will be good for India...They r following the right policy

you are absolutely right sir that is why is used the word MORE .
both of them need each other there is no argument on this.

to iceman:-
sir you say rusia is providing china and pakistan for the RD-93 engines fine its true wh do you hide then what engine russia is providing india with inexchange,
here it is first time on pdf:-In the engine area, Russia has transferred to India production documentation for such a high-tech product as the RD-33 Series 3 aircraft engine. Our country is developing the AL-55I turbojet intended to power the Indian HJT-36 trainer.

why dont people mention the rd-33 series 3 engine, does india have the capability to build an engine of that caliber by itself.compare this engine wih the rd-93 that pakistan gets and you will get your answer.which other country is providing you with such engines, noone otherwise the lca would have being flying by now.

thanx

Asim.

The Russians have already started suplying you with the RD93 engine for JF17..

please take the russians........ THERE YOURS FOR FREE.........

We will indians will stick to ISRAEL & FRANCE from now on.

with USA depending on TOT issues
You'd have to share France and the US too for some more years.

In reply to qsaark
This is why

despite delays india will induct over 140 tejas fighters by 2020

A western MMRCA will win the 126 combat plane bidder with new TOT

And Israel has $ 8 billion worth of orders for radars missles ECM equipment and other military hardware to become india,s second biggest arms supplier within 10 years of its first order..

im sorry dude we are talking about 5 gen LCA is not 5 gen so please come back on topic F 18 hornet and F16 does not have much major change only major change is engine

Selling Arms s a v lucrative business..
n thats an understatement...
Russia wants to sell weapons n so do other countries..There s no harm in Russia selling weapons to Pak..In fact they would sell it to US too if only they were willing to buy..hehe..
Nothing for India to get upset abt..Or perhaps they r just toooooo sensitive..
N no india cant dump russia..N Russia s not gonna start supplying pak overnight..
India s moving closer towards US n is antagonising Russia..We will see this going on for some time but the whole thing will take at least ten years or mere..The MRCA deal is also v imp in tat context..They will piss off whoever they dont buy from..HAHA..

i hope russia will make its decision now after indians decision i hope they will sell some stuff to pakistan

in my wish list is S-400,SU37,some battle ships

remember just 1 point:-
india needs russia more than russia needs india in the world<inclusive of defence and non -defence.

thnx

thats a good analysis of the india of the 90s...we are non-aligned remember?
it's upto us how we use the leverage india enjoys today...russia can get unprecedented acces to the western arms that are accessible to india..and use it to fine-tune it's weaponry...the way the Us has had the access to russian/soviet arms frm the third countries.
your economy can cause problems...it's forecaasted to grow at 0% this year...you need the investment to maintain your status as the 'other' suprpower.

sir su37 is only a techno demonstrator its only meant for R&D purposes.

@paritosh:- sir russia is not the other super-power as you have said, its only a developing country like the india or pakistan. but if you consider its importance and influence in world forum like the UN then its far higher up.thats why i said moreconsidering modern fights are more diplomatic than firearms based.
thanx

Dont be upset..It cuts both ways.....
U can buy weapons from the west but they r pricey...N u aren v v rich either..Secondly Russia will start supporting us N China..That can be dangerous. The only thing stoping Russia from doing this wholeheartedly is Russian sale of arms...
Roles will reverse from the 70s n 80s when US supported us n Ussr supported u..

Think abt it.
from head n not testoterone

well the only country that can stand up to the mighty America!
we need a bipolar world...there was a time when the world though that russia china and india would together form the second pole.
but frankly its just russia with the kind of self-sufficiency you enjoy in almost everything.but you and i can only try to comprehend what the policy makers are planning...we have traditional ties...Both the counties have stood'p up for each other in dire times. These ties have a symbiotic nature that cant be downplayed in favor of just one partner.

Moscow..

Regarding india needing Russia.

I think as long as we keep buying RUSSIAN hardware we will need them.

We leave our selves to be blackmailed. ie Gorskhov & price hikes on MIG29K

Which foolish country will pay $5 - $10 billion in research & development to fund PAK FA then find that the technology is being sold to its greatest rival China and then some stage PAF...

Russia is merely thinking about its interests its no longer the staunch ally that sent their Navy to stop USA carrier fleet in BAY OF BENGAL in 1971.

Having said that india too is a major developing country ready to spend $50 billion+ on weapons on ITS TERMS not the sellers terms.

THIS WILL CAUSE ripples between RUSSIA & INDIA.

DIVERSIFY IS THE KEY and take as much TOT as you can.

There are reports emanating from AERO INDIA that the IAF are looking at alternative 5TH GENERATION PLATFORMS to the proposed FGFA fighter project between india & Russia.

The report highlights india,s disappoint that the Russians have not involved IAF in the design of the proposed plane at any stage. The plane in its basic configuration is ready for its first flight in 2010.

One other major setback has been that despite sharing 50% costs of its future developments india request for NO SHARING of technology with china PLAAF was denied by the Russians.

In short the Russians want $5 to $10 billion dollars in development funding but india will not have exclusive rights to the PAK FA.. or its technology.

This follows serious delays and massive price hikes on the GORSKHOV carrier deal. rising from $650m to $1.8 billion today.

126 MRCA deal is now widely expected to be won by a western bidder
F18 super hornets or Rafael are the current front runners..

But the BIG QUESTION is where does IAF go for the future FIFTH GENERATION fighters. ????

India can no longer rely 100% exclusively on RUSSIA its just too dangerous

dude were did u got the info from .or it is what u feel

Rosoboronexport(Russian company) offering Indian Partner full military technology
10:08 GMT, February 14, 2009 Summing up and announcing the winner of a tender to supply 126 multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) to the Indian Air Force (IAF) will be one of the high points in military-technical cooperation between India and foreign countries in the coming one or two years.

The tender involves six contenders: Russian MiG-35 fighter (RSK MiG), American F-16 and F/A-18 (from Lockheed Martin and Boeing respectively), French Rafale (Dassault Aviation), Swedish JAS-39 Gripen (SAAB), and European Eurofighter Typhoon (EADS). The technical evaluation of the bids has been completed, and field trials are to start in India in April-May.

The Russian fighter offers distinct advantages over the competing planes. Unlike all the other aircraft, which are production models, the MiG-35 is the latest-generation fighter developed with due regard to the peculiarities of operation in India. It not only meets all the requirements of the tender put forward by the IAF, but also has drawn from the best operating experience with previous MiG aircraft in the country.
The Russian aircraft has perfect aerodynamic lines and what is more it has acquired incredible super maneuverability, owing to an exclusive thrust vector control technology. None of MiG-35’s rivals can boast such capability, which gives it an undeniable edge in real air combat. Furthermore, heavy use of composites in the frame has made the aircraft less observable to enemy radars. The fighter’s double weapons load and 1.5-fold higher fuel capacity compared to its predecessor are also its irresistible benefits.

The Zhuk-AE active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar is a unique component of the MiG-35, which was proposed for the tender by Rosoboronexport and MiG Russian Aircraft Corporation. The radar can track up to 30 targets and attack simultaneously six most dangerous of them. Its target detection range of 140-160 km also wins admiration and can be further extended to 250-280 km when more receive/transmit modules are used. Along with its powerful precision-guided weapons, high-performance active self-defense system and superb performance characteristics, the lightweight MiG-35 has grown into a medium-sized aircraft – a superfighter of the 21st century.

Another benefit of the Russian fighter is its best value for money. Being highly competitive with its Western counterparts, the MiG-35 is superior to its rivals in many characteristics and at same time is less expensive. For India, this factor may be decisive in selecting the winner, all other things being equal. On the world arms markets, where Rosoboronexport has operated in recent years, the cost-performance ratio favorably distinguishes Russian military equipment from rivals.
More than 40 years of military-technical cooperation between Russia and India and the current level of the mutually beneficial bilateral relations are indicative of this.

The recent major projects being implemented between Moscow and Delhi include delivery of Mi-17V-5 transport helicopters to India, license production of Su-30MKI aircraft and T-90S tanks.

A qualitatively new phase of fruitful bilateral cooperation is marked by the key joint aircraft projects. These are primarily the multi-purpose transport plane and a fifth-generation fighter development programs

“This year’s 7th AERO INDIA 2009 exhibition is a grandiose aerospace event in the Asia & Pacific region. It involves 20 Russian exhibitors presenting several hundreds of weaponry, military and aerospace equipment items,” said Viktor Komardin, head of Rosoboronexport’s delegation and Deputy Director General of the Corporation. “The content and dimensions of Rosoboronexport’s display, planned meetings and negotiations will be focused on further strengthening Russia’s military-technical cooperation with its long and reliable partners as well as on looking for new would-be purchasers of aircraft and armaments made by Russia independently or jointly with foreign partners in production.

Russians just dont wanna let go of India!!!!!:D and India just can't help it when Russians bid for 12 bn with something this good!

It will be a smart move on the part of India to let the Russians sell their toys to India. India will probably still be courted by the US even if India goes to Russia. But the other way round, Russia would throw a tantrum and get its ego hurt.

And we'll swoop in at that time :). At the end of the day I'm sure the Indian decision would be more political than military. Since militarily none of the options are bad either.
