RamuSome people insist of being foolish all their life.
1.25 dollars in absolute terms converted to Indian Rupee = Rs. 56.25
The article says $1.25 in PPP terms is Rs. 21.60. And people living below Rs.21.60 (adjusted PPP to $1.25) is 42%
Now let us remove the PPP factor and consider it in only Rupee terms.
I am not claiming $1.25 = Rs.21.60 in absolute terms which is clearly in PPP terms.
However, it is clear that in India 42% of the people earn below Rs. 21.60. If I had claimed 42% of Indians earn less than $1.25(Rs. 56.25) in absolute terms, I will be wrong but that was never the claim. Rs. 21.60 is absolute as it is the currency in which people earn in India.
Now let us look at what a crank claimed : 74.4% of India live under Rs. 20 a day. This is clearly wrong.
Even after this clear cut explanation someone does not want to understand, then please consider this my last post in this aspect.
Now you are retracting, first it was in absolute term, now you saying let's remove the sentence which mentioned PPP calculation.
But again you are using adjusted PPP in your new post. How silly you want to be?
Rs.20 is not my figure it was given by your fellow Indian, confirmed by the Wikipedia entry.
But let's look at your own marvel;
However, it is clear that in India 42% of the people earn below Rs21.60. If I had claimed 42% of Indians earn less than $1.25(Rs56.25) in absolute terms, I will be wrong but that was never the claim. Rs21.60 is absolute as it is the currency in which people earn in India.
First of all you didnt claim you produced a quotation.
But lets move on, you are also after all basing your figure of 42% people earning less than Rs21.60, as the writer of the quotation and not on $1.25 a day. Why are you removing PPP calculation then? When in reality you are doing exactly the same, what the writer did? You are saying 42% of Indians live on less than Rs21.6 which is the rupees equivalent of $1.25 calculated using PPP.
In other words you accept using the actual $1.25 in absolute terms, or equal of it which is Rs56.25; would put far more Indians below the UN poverty line. Especially when the figure using PPP calculations for rural area is only Rs14.3 instead of actual Rs56.25. This would put far more Indians below the UN poverty line. For simple reason, more poor Indians live in the rural areas.
Thank you for completely agreeing with my figures. As I said Indian try to pull a fast one by using PPP to hide the real poverty in India according to the UN set targets.
There is absolutely no doubt that close to or over 90% of Indians live below current UN poverty line of $2 a day.
