India may be working on a third stealth fighter project

Some people insist of being foolish all their life.

1.25 dollars in absolute terms converted to Indian Rupee = Rs. 56.25
The article says $1.25 in PPP terms is Rs. 21.60. And people living below Rs.21.60 (adjusted PPP to $1.25) is 42%
Now let us remove the PPP factor and consider it in only Rupee terms.
I am not claiming $1.25 = Rs.21.60 in absolute terms which is clearly in PPP terms.
However, it is clear that in India 42% of the people earn below Rs. 21.60. If I had claimed 42% of Indians earn less than $1.25(Rs. 56.25) in absolute terms, I will be wrong but that was never the claim. Rs. 21.60 is absolute as it is the currency in which people earn in India.

Now let us look at what a crank claimed : 74.4% of India live under Rs. 20 a day. This is clearly wrong.

Even after this clear cut explanation someone does not want to understand, then please consider this my last post in this aspect.

Now you are retracting, first it was in absolute term, now you saying let's remove the sentence which mentioned PPP calculation.

But again you are using adjusted PPP in your new post. How silly you want to be?

Rs.20 is not my figure it was given by your fellow Indian, confirmed by the Wikipedia entry.

But let's look at your own marvel;

First of all you didn’t claim you produced a quotation.

But let’s move on, you are also after all basing your figure of 42% people earning less than Rs21.60, as the writer of the quotation and not on $1.25 a day. Why are you removing PPP calculation then? When in reality you are doing exactly the same, what the writer did? You are saying 42% of Indians live on less than Rs21.6 which is the rupees equivalent of $1.25 calculated using PPP.:lol::lol:

In other words you accept using the actual $1.25 in absolute terms, or equal of it which is Rs56.25; would put far more Indians below the UN poverty line. Especially when the figure using PPP calculations for rural area is only Rs14.3 instead of actual Rs56.25. This would put far more Indians below the UN poverty line. For simple reason, more poor Indians live in the rural areas.

Thank you for completely agreeing with my figures. As I said Indian try to pull a fast one by using PPP to hide the real poverty in India according to the UN set targets.

There is absolutely no doubt that close to or over 90% of Indians live below current UN poverty line of $2 a day.

India’s Anti-Poverty Programs Are Big but Troubled

NEW DELHI — India spends more on programs for the poor than most developing countries, but it has failed to eradicate poverty because of widespread corruption and faulty government administration, the World Bank said Wednesday.

“India is not getting the ‘bang for the rupee’ that its significant expenditure would seem to warrant, and the needs of important population groups remain only party addressed,” John D. Blomquist, lead economist at the World Bank, wrote in a nearly 400-page study released Wednesday.

India spent 2 percent of its gross domestic product, or $28.6 billion last year, on social programs to alleviate and prevent poverty, the World Bank said, a higher percentage than any other country in Asia and about three times China’s spending.

The programs, central to the Congress party’s platform, include food distribution and health insurance initiatives that are supposed to reach hundreds of millions of households. The report was written at the “request of the government of India” and with full participation from various government bodies, the report said.

The World Bank on Wednesday recommended a radical overhaul of India’s social programs. “Marginal changes alone may not deliver the kind of safety net which a changing India needs for its poor and for its economy,” Mr. Blomquist wrote.

One of the primary problems, the World Bank said, was “leakages” — an often-used term in development circles that refers to government administrators and middle men stealing money, food and benefits. The bank said that 59 percent of the grain allotted for public distribution to the poor does not reach those households.

Instead of distributing food, the government might be better off giving out food stamps or cash transfers that can be easily traced through technology, the World Bank said.

India, the world’s the second-fastest growing major economy, after China, has had an economic boom in recent years that is transforming urban areas and creating a new class of extremely wealthy people. But social problems, including poverty, disease and illiteracy, remain widespread.

About 455 million Indian citizens live on less than $1.25 a day, the World Bank’s poverty line. A United Nations study released last year found more people living below the poverty threshold in eight states in India than in all of sub- Saharan Africa.

now read the highlighted lines and prove me wrong.. i will accept the credible source or link before ur usual blabbering and making of facts.. indian poverty is nearly 37.6% only as compared to pakistan which is having astonishing 43%

Where does it say, it is using straight $1.25 equivalent and not PPP? This is the same quotation what Ramu is using.

It seems that Indians keep fooling themselves, in their efforts to win the arguments against me. But alas, some people learn very slowly.

First let me introduce a snapshot from WB website, this snapshot clearly indicate PPP approach is used.

globalpovertywb.jpg

Therefore, the figures quoted by Ms Roy are accurate. Close to 80% Indians earn Rs20 per day.

Now let’ me introduce another paragraph from WB report on poverty.

The reduction in the headcount poverty rate is robust to the choice of poverty line; if a $1/day line is used, the headcount poverty rate fell from 41 percent in 1981 to 16 percent in 2005; if the line is set at $2.50 per person per day, poverty fell from 75 percent in 1981 to 57 percent in 2005. However, the choice of poverty line matters when examining the absolute number of those in poverty: using the low poverty
line of $1/day, there were 1.5 billion (extremely) poor people in 1981 and 0.9 billion in 2005, but if the bar is set at $2.50/day, there were 2.7 billion poor in 1981 and 3.1billion in 2005, representing 48 percent of total world population, and 57 percent of the population of less-developed countries, at this latter date.

All these percentages are based on PPP calculations. But if we look in reality since the introduction of WTO, the food prices are increasing steadily all around the world. WTO has removed the protection poor had in their countries where the food was relatively cheap. But this is not the case anymore. Hence the actual poverty is increasing, and more people are facing food poverty in poorer countries, due to soaring food prices.

In Richer countries where only very nominal part of the income is spend on the food; people can afford price rises, even though they will spend more on food as percentage of their income compare to earlier years. But in poorer countries where the major part of poor people income is spend on food; the price rises are debilitating them.

Anyway, for India after 2005 there are no figures available in WB Database. Do not try to bring newer articles like one just quoted. Even though it is written in 2011 but it is relying on 2005 figures.

This is an utterly rubbish news. To put in simple words India cannot afford 3 type of stealth aircrafts.

Indian Aerospace Industry is Booming especially with the introduction of Pvt players like TATA and Mahindra
