The Maoist insurgency has been described as India's biggest security threat

Ten paramilitary soldiers have been killed in a clash between security forces and Maoist rebels in India's eastern Bihar state, police say.

At least five other soldiers were injured in the battle in Aurangabad district late on Monday.

Maoist rebels have carved out strongholds in a number of states in the north, east and centre of India.

They say they are fighting for communist rule and greater rights for tribal people and the rural poor.

Three rebels were also killed in Monday night's gunfight in the Dumrinala area, nearly 170km (105 miles) south of Patna, the capital of Bihar, police officer PK Sahu told the Associated Press news agency,

The police said the rebels used improvised explosive devices and fired at the soldiers when the latter were conducting anti-rebel operations in the area.

India's Maoist insurgency began in West Bengal state in the late 1960s and has been called the country's "greatest internal security challenge".

The Maoists control large areas of several states in a "red corridor" stretching from the north-east to central India.

Rest of them are from 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Apparently every year's Moist score some.

No new thread came up while I was creating it. Later saw one Indian source thread, so I guess this one from BBC is much more credible.

This 6-7 thread of on the related topic

rest in peace to the dead
Maoist violence is going for decades and doesn't get much attention. there is confusion if its about territorial rights, claim to natural resources or just change of governance?

due to lack of information I always confuse Maoists, Naxalites and Adi vasis as one. if anyone can clarify then it will be great

I guess the murdered soldiers are NOT Indians.
No human rights activist will say anything.
raNDtv channel presstitutes will not write any articles or tweets commenting on this murders
The Hindu will NOT write lengthy editorials about the plight of these brave soldiers who are serving the nation.

the "liberals" here will give a thousand justifications for the murder of these soldiers.

Couple of days back Pakistani cricketers after winning the match gave a nice salute to their military. Our liberals in India constantly give the middle finger to our brave soldiers.
Welcome to Democracy where the people protecting you are demonized and their deaths celebrated.
