India: Living in the Pocket of Uncle Sam

The writer, Colin Todhunter, as quoted in the site, has spent many years in India. He has written extensively for the Bangalore-based Deccan Herald, New Indian Express and Morning Star (Britain).

You can not just brush it aside in this manner.

Why we Indians need artificial hostility with USA!

Not at all...but Indian media gives space to all type of characters including Arundathi Roy who called Maoists "Gandhians with Guns".

Arundhathi is one of the best writers that I have read. She got the bookers award for the book. It is indeed worth reading. Just because she writes against Indian policies and have a view point, doesn't mean that she is not a good writer.

You may not agree with her opinion - you can't say that she is a bad writer.

If India was really living in US pockets:

We would have bought US jets for our AF in a deal considered the largest in the world
We would have given all nuclear reactor contracts to US
We would have cut off all ties with Iran...to name a few.

Not to mention that we would have bought the F-35 (we were offered) instead of FGFA.
We would not be best friends with Iraq before the invasion.
We would already have veto power in the UN (USA supports us as it is, if we were their pawns, we would have got veto power loooooong ago)

Would you be able to say the same thing about Salman Rushdie? He has won many more writers awards and accomplishments then Arundhati Roy...

I am not saying that. Probably the writer has also not said that.

However, one thing is clear that India doesn't have any other place to align herself with except America and her western allies.

Which also means that your own standing in the world is essentially based on American give aways.

I will be honest with you. I have read Sulman Rushdie - Arundhati is way way ahead of him as a writer.

Pls extent that sentiments to Salman Rushdie also.

You guys want to believe that, go ahead and believe. :P

Our standing is based on our own accomplishments, we did not send Chandrayaan with US help did we? :azn:

And that's just one example, I can get you a million more.

I think you are wishing in wishful waters a bit too much. Lets see when that happens.

Anyways there is no question of us aligning with China.

I said before as well - I have read both Sulman Rushdie and Arundhati, and I found that Arundhati is way way ahead of sulman Rushdie as a writer.

She is in a different class altogether as a writer.

What a funny allegation...

You were not in the pocket of Uncle Sam when the U2 crisis happened, when you needed the arms and ammunition, when you needed the F-16s,when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, and even now?Even now,US send huge amounts donation to Pakistan every year.
Since the creation of Pakistan the country has either been in bed with US or China, while India has been a part of NAM and almost continuously under sanctions/bans/trade embargoes. Its only now that the US cannot resist the huge market here anymore, doesnt mean that we are in Uncle Sam's pocket. Our stance remains just the same- Non-aligned.
Until and unless you stop behaving like a climber plant and stop taking others' support to stand, nothing good is going to happen to you.
