India likely to sign $20 bn fighter jet deal only under next government

Sons Of Bitches are in Congress Ruining India...

quite true buddy some of ur analysis are more or less viable but we are a democracy and this is the atrocious side of it, unlike urs socialist style we have to go through a ample amount of legislative and executive procedure, where there is often impedance by bureaucracy for its smooth functioning.

I can say with full responsibility over here that due to this transparent system india always lags behind by china by 2% in every aspect, be it the economy , be ti the infrastructure or the military build up,as long as china is running smoothly.:hitwall::hitwall:

Our last hope is that white beard man............
Every type of regime has it's pros and cons, you don't have to force yourself comparing with China in every aspect. One has to be realistic.

It says that the Airforce has spent 92% of its budget, not congress. They just want to get the deal signed once they get the money for next year which also coincides with elections.
Wrong analogy. Airforce has spent 92% 'allotted' budget which was slashed earlier. If it was not slashed, it would not have any problem for them.

Maybe the majority of budget are mobilized to fund the coming election?

Any chance of the next administration restarting the bidding process @Indian members?

Off topic - Always thought you guys should've gone for the Typhoons tbh.

Don't think so but still It will take 2-3 months from formation of new govt. So expect this deal to be signed by august-september at earliest.

How do Modi perceive the Rafale deal?

The price of updating M2K to V block 3 version cost IAF 2.4 billion USD, the spending of IAF is mammoth to compensate DRDo's failure to deliver advanced fighters to IAF.

Its not an analogy, it says so in the article. That is the reason they gave for not signing among other things. But I can see you point as well. Are you saying new acquisitions are not included in the budget?

The unit price of updating reaches nearly 48 million, you can image how desperate IAF need sufficient advanced fighters to fill the gap.

We might know how IAF pilots prefer Dassault platform in the M2K updating case.

It does seem like they are deliberately trying to leave a huge mess for the next administration.

I mean Manmohan Singh is a world-renowned economist, he obviously knows exactly what to do, to fix the economy. But for political reasons he is keeping his mouth shut, and not doing anything to stop it.
knowledge that cannot be used to implement... is as good as not having it!!!
mms will go down in history as pm who has brought abt growth and reverted back as well!

If converted on PPP scale 20 Billion USD is equivalent to around 50 Billion USD, but for that we will have to spend this whole amount domestically. 20 Billion USD can do wonders. Cannot we invest a part of it on development of indigenous turbofan engines? Part of it might be utilized for the 5th gen fighter project. I say let us develop the Tejas project further. Invest a part on upgrading the assembly and the testing infrastructure.

What is the point in purchasing more foreign birds when we can build one on our own? Besides, operating too many different kinds of aircraft is a logistical nightmare.

Let us give some incentive to our guys. Scrap the Rafale deal.

India likely to sign $20 bn fighter jet deal only under next government - Livemint

New Delhi: India will not sign a $20 billion deal to acquire fighter jets for the Indian Air Force till the next fiscal year, defence minister A.K. Antony said on Thursday, indicating it would be left to the next government to finalize the purchase.
“It has to wait for the next financial year starting 1 April,” Antony said.
India does not have the budget to buy the jets, Antony said. “Ninety-two per cent of our budget has already been used, with only 8% left,” he said.
India in January 2012 decided to buy 126 Rafale fighter jets from France’s Dassault Aviation after an extensive auction process, but the discussions have been delayed over various issues. In October, Reuters reported the deal was to be finalized by March.
Another reason for the delay in the award of the contract relates to life cycle costs, Antony said.
“MMRCA (medium multi-role combat aircraft) will materialize, only that (it will) not (in) this financial year but next financial year,” Antony said when asked if the government would buy Russian Sukhoi jets if the Rafale deal does not go through. “The negotiations on life cycle costs are continuing. I hope we are able to close it in next financial year.”
India is likely to hold its national election in April-May and since the election code of conduct is expected to kick-in by early March the deal is unlikely to be signed by the present government. No major policy or contracts can be announced 45 days before an election.

Just as I had expected.. but I was hoping present government to sign deal of 18 jets at least. Now if this is upto next government, you can easily say they wouldn't sign the deal until Indian economy starts improving again. New Indian Government wouldn't want to take blame of "wasting" 20 billions when Indian indigenous jets were doing that well.

You dont need to worry.this deal will sign in next fiscal year.Negotitations is almost complete. But this not a small amount deal.
So we cant hurry and now GDP is slow down slightly. We will again pickup after this.
