India in war games on Pak border

Published: December 02, 2011

NEW DELHI - At a time when Pakistanis are recovering from the shock of Nato attack on two military posts, thousands of Indian soldiers armed with hundreds of tanks, armoured carriers and fighter jets are getting ready for manoeuvres in Rajasthan sector along Pakistani border, reported Indian media on Thursday.
More than 50,000 Indian troops along with T-90, T-72, Arjun Tanks and BMPs are expected to take part in this gigantic military exercise code-named ‘SUDARSHAN SHAKTI’.
An Indian defence report says that “This exercise will be a trendsetter for the Integrated Theatre Concept”.
Indian President Pratibha Patil will review Sudarshan Shakti in the Rajasthan desert on December 5. The exercise, which has been mounted by the Southern Army, is touted as one of the biggest military exercises mounted by the Indian Army in the last two decades.
Speaking to media persons in Pune on Wednesday, Lt-Gen AK Singh, southern army commander, said the exercise, a once-in-3-years event, has deployed as many as 50,000 soldiers, 500 armed vehicles and fighter jets and combat helicopters of the Indian Air Force.
The desert exercise is a by-product of the study on ‘transformational and theatrisation of combat and support services of the Indian Army’ which was drafted by Indian Army Chief General VK Singh, and the southern army commander.
The exercise is being spearheaded by 21 Corps and is being primarily conducted to sharpen the skills of the forces and keep them battle-ready.
Earlier in the day in a video-conference, Lt-Gen Sanjiv Langer, 21 Corps commander, speaking from the desert of Rajasthan, told media persons that the exercise was helping the army combine with the air force and use the latest technology to create real-time situations. Langer said, “Our computers are connected on a local area network and our field commanders are getting the opportunity to take instant decisions.” Langer also said that the field commanders were using satellite technology extensively.
According to Langer, the basic objective of Exercise Sudarshan Shakti was to create a lean and agile fighting force, to exploit technology, to facilitate real-time reconnaissance and work in tandem with the air force.
Army chief General V K Singh will be on a day’s visit to Leh today to take stock of the security situation in the region sharing boundaries with both Pakistan and China.
The army chief is expected to be briefed by the local commanders about the situation on both the eastern and western fronts there and the preparedness of the forces deployed in the region.

Those deceitful indians. And they were trying to get Pakistan to trust them. If india could be defeated and partitioned, peace might break out everywhere in South Asia!

What is deceitful about holding war games on one's territory? Each side is duly informed beforehand that a war exercise will be taking place in this and this place. It keeps the other side observant probably as they will have to ensure that whoever is holding the exercise does not violate the territorial integrity of the non participant nation, but it also keeps them from unnecessarily overreacting.

And India splitting up into the parts you envision is about as likely as the world being created in 7 days. We may have our faults here and there, but we're still here, despite all the **** that's happened in the general area post-independence.

Why are you burning if India conducts war games in its sovereign territory ?

Good to see we are conducting a lot of war games lately this will keep the forces in better condition and provide with training.

Is the army providing better equipment for the soldiers in this war game as to test the efficiency of the system, or are we testing anything related to the F-INSAS system?

It seems all the new toys in the arsenal are being tested in these exercises...

Would help in efficiently utilizing them when necessary....

China and Pakistan too held a joint exercise near the Rajasthan border. So I don't see why Chinese members have a problem with India conducting military exercises in Indian territory!
