Well this is excellent work indeed. One should appreciate the effort. I just hope that these millions of trees do not share the fate of millions planted in similar drives in the past where people just planted the tree and moved on, no one took care of it. The kinds of plants usually used in such plantation drives are such that they do not need lot of care but still it is required in first few weeks. I hope people will stay active and will take care of this new plantation post monsoon. If they can do so for a few months/weeks the amount of care/attention required will drop down significantly and if you can save these till next monsoon they will be strong enough to propagate on their own after that.

We are so good at criticism that we can criticize almost everything and do so with such blindness that we will completely ignore anything positive about the matter.

Well this is excellent work indeed. One should appreciate the effort. I just hope that these millions of trees do not share the fate of millions planted in similar drives in the past where people just planted the tree and moved on, no one took care of it. The kinds of plants usually used in such plantation drives are such that they do not need lot of care but still it is required in first few weeks. I hope people will stay active and will take care of this new plantation post monsoon. If they can do so for a few months/weeks the amount of care/attention required will drop down significantly and if you can save these till next monsoon they will be strong enough to propagate on their own after that.

Mansoon has arrived and fortunately its so far so good. It rain till Sept end so most of the trees will survive.

Evenif only 1 million trees survived this year it would be a great achievement and we will do better next year.

Guava for me.

Kids can safely climb it, its branches don't break, and the fruit are nice to eat. Doesn't take too much upkeep, very eco-friendly. Heck, just like me.

I love the thought that someone had, a curry tree growing different curries. Just pick them and cook them.

How true Arsalan bhai ! Tree planting in India is all about hype. Quantity comes in loads but when it comes to quality care, the numbers are at the opposite end.

The other thing to note - school kids from very elite schools - they will be happy to go out in the fields for 'tree planting'. But these same bachaas of the rich and famous have no clue if putting their hands in the soil and planting a tree is actually good and hands on. Typically , what happens is they will allow the school gardener to plant the sapling into the soil. And these elites will then spray water and move on. They won't squat, won't get their hands soild (cheeeee..ganda haath) .. TREE PLANTING high class style.

I often say this, if TREE PLANTING / AFFORESTATION has to be done by any country, then it is CHINA. The government has the machinery and the manpower to cover miles and miles of land scape to plant and maintain sapling cover. And they do a bloody fantastic job with very little % of wastage / destruction of saplings.

Only HYPE does not maketh a forest. Love and care needs to be given

Anise? Yes we do! Honestly, everything grows here naturally from bamboo to anise to mangos to apples and everything inbetween.

That is Star Anise and people from all around the world use this in their foods. You will commonly find this in kitchens from East Asia to West Asia especially. I sometimes bite star anise in raw form and just enjoy the flavor that lingers in my mouth. YUMMMmmmm.....
