In fact it is the most experienced aircraft manufacturer in South Asia that has experience in developing aircraft on its own.Now reserve that stupid comment for use in thread about infamous PAC.

Err if you are talking about that JV then yes that never materialised but if you were talkling about that project hten i think it has gathered momentum now and gov. has released some to work for the design of the plane but i doubt we will able to complete such an ambitious project.

Why India can ?

Building civil aircraft is easier then many projects India's put behind.

The trick is in the data. Raw and vlean data the the magic, otherwise it's a near 100 yr. old industry.

India's been lucky in being in nuclear, petrochemical, outer space and railways r8 from the start almost.

But personal auto and micro chip manufacturing was a stop go stop go thing. India caught up with the auto biz. Thanks to govt's Maruti Suzuki. Same with motorbikes.

Indian aerospace has now matured to own local data. Now the govt's pushing aerospace. Speaking from inside experience, it's totally doable compared to other technology.
