India Facing Growing Maoists Insurgency, Targets Rights Groups

watch and learn dude.. How much time did it take for Pakistan to clear SWAT and South waziristan?? And these were PA trained hard core terrorists. Maoists are simply dissatisfied and angry citizens who have taken to arms. Very similar to the dacoits of central india a few decades back. Some of those dacoits joined the mainstream and actually became MPs. There is no better Home minister than PC to address this issue. Lets come back and talk about this in 12 months. Better than making predictions..? Eh?

There is none so blind as those who will not see. And there is none so illiterate as those who will not read.

Please read the the following parts in the Newsweek story:

"For years the Maoists have practically owned the impoverished eastern state of Jharkhand, where my sister and her husband live in a rented house on the outskirts of a small, dusty town. The terrified local cops seldom venture outside their station houses."

"Deepak Ambastha is the editor of Prabhat Khabar, a Hindi daily newspaper. (He said,) "....the state's writ runs only within city limits."

It's obvious that the writ of the government in states like Chattisgrah and Jharakand is limited to a few cities, no different than Afghanistan.

Here's Ravi Rikhye, editor of Orbat, criticizing Indian home minister's boast about defeating Maoists in three years:

We told you speaking first thinking later is not just a Pakistani trait but is a subcontinental trait. Now the Indian Home Minister has announced that the Maoists, who are active in one-third of India's districts (counties) will be defeated in three years. What's so sad about this amazingly stupid statement is that the Minister is actually quite a brainy fellow and an effective administrator. The Maoist problem has plagued India for 40 years, and a lot of it tied up with social injustice. Its absurd to think its going to solved in three years when India has not been able to defeat straightforward secessionist insurgencies in its northeast for 40 years.

The Maoist story in India is hot one right now, with lots of news and statements from all sides, including home minister and his critics.

The story is not going to go away just because you wish it would. That's not how the world operates.

So deal with it and stop protesting.

I don't know where you are getting your numbers from. 120 million is equal to genocide that is the most severe EVER, why is it I have never heard of this before?

I don't know anything about India's internal politics, but that didn't ring true.

Though insurgencies in its northeast and Maoist seem different, the root causes are similar. The sustenance of these movements too are quite similar. However, unlike other terrorism that India faces, Maoism and Northeastern insurgency can be called as insurgency. Though violence is often used by these groups, they are specifically targeted at the government and symbols of government.

Indian polity and society is aware of the political nature of the root cause. Yes we have had to endure these movements for a long time, without solutions and our HM's statement might sound pompous. But, going by how he has been managing Internal Security in India and the Economic ministry prior to that, one can but doubt his intentions.

Maoist existence should not be misread as India's inability to defeat them militarily, as India never used either it's military or paramilitary to address Maoist. It was always looked at as fringe politico-military movement. Empowerment of Tribals that inhabit these rural area in India, along with targeting of self serving criminals in the guise of Maoist leader will be the starting point. Open discussions and generosity of the Indian state is what is needed. Operation Green Hunt, even if is carried out, would be to "show the big stick" before "polite words" are used.

With his track record, I would go along with Chidambaram. Whether 3 years of 10 years, that is for future to tell.

it is from both sides windjammer but this guy has crossed all limits. The language he uses is very degrading and the way he post is just wrong. When me and you argue there is still a sense of decency and the limit is there but this peanut head has crossed the limit multiple times and continues to do so. The Indian reply is expected after what this guy says. Little Indians and Pakistani exist on both sides but this guy is the worst by far.

Banning organizations is generally a bad idea.

Is this guy not from the same country where night plans were banned, Indian TV channels are being banned and what not.

But yeah, when the whole world banned LET, JUD, etc, Pakistan still considers them safe and innocent.

I guess Pakistan does think that banning organizations is a bad idea. Banning anything else is just a piece of cake.

Flawed article. 25%?????
:rofl::rofl:
