India donates 500 Mahindra tractors to Sri Lanka

India has donated 500 Mahindra tractors to Sri Lanka with an aim to help the rural population of the island nation.

DIMO, the Mahindra dealer in Sri Lanka, was awarded the contract for supplying the tractors, a release said here today.

All the tractors come with a complete set of farm implements. The first batch of 52 tractors was handed over by Ashok K Kantha, Indian High Commissioner in Colombo, to Sri Lanka's Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksha recently, it said.

"We are delighted that the government has chosen to donate Mahindra tractors to Sri Lanka. The Mahindra Group has a long and enduring association with Sri Lanka which is an important market for us and this is our way of helping in the nation building process," Mahindra & Mahindra Chief Executive (International Operations), Automotive and Farm Sector P N Shah said.

The Indian auto giant has already established a base for itself in Sri Lanka. The Group now plans to further consolidate its presence by foraying into the hospitality and finance sectors.

Atleast give the due credit to the topic in discussion first before starting your rant.

I heard Ssangyong Motors is pretty popular in Sri Lanka and with Mahindra buying it, it signals a good gesture from the Mahindras to maintain a good relationship with the Lankans.

Good for Indo-Srilanka relationship. But i think this is a business decision by Mahindra. Nothing to do with Govt of India.
