India Developing, but still a long way to go

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport | Bombay | MH

Having handled over 46 million passengers in 2017, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai has been ranked the World's Best Airport for the Airport Service Quality Awards 2017 for superior customer experience.

The award was announced by the Airports Council International (ACI), which represented 1,953 member airports in 176 countries.

Gurgaon Skyline looks far better than Mumbai Skyline which is shabby and uneven

Gurugram has mostly lowrise to midrise buildings. Mumbai has many up and coming highrises and supertalls. It may take another 10 years for the Mumbai skyline to 'even out'
 
Shanghai & Hong Kong Vs. Gurugram & Mumbai.

India's rapid but democratic progress means Mumbai MMR has many tall and mega - tall clusters coming up, Gurugram or Noida in the Delhi NCR has incredible land banks with 1/2 of Haryana and Parts of Rajasthan already in the NCR and Gr. Noida's Yamuna/Taj Expressway stretching it all out to the Taj Mahal in Agra !
  • Sad China bulldozed their walled cities/heritage precincts/ancient city core's and replicated the American model but they had to and planting tall American style skyscrapers
Still there are a few upcoming tall to mega-tall clusters in the area which are not likely to amplify re: new airport.

Chennai, Banglore, Hyderabad are going through a infra. boom stretching their boundaries way outside current limits. Yet, a few clusters will come up there in the future but far less then Bombay.

Chennai , Bangalore and Hyderabad are seeing unprecedented growth ...they are soon to be 20 million cities ...already the boundaries are being expanded to cover the erstwhile suburban areas

The cities are already well established in the following verticals :

Chennai: Automobiles, Auto -Ancillary , Electronics, IT -software , R and D, Banking , Leather , Defence , Plastics , Aerospace , Biotech , Ship building , Port related industries , etc

Bangalore : IT-Software , R and D , Start ups, Manufacturing , Financial services ,Pharma , Biotech, Aerospace , electronics , Textiles , Warehousing , ecommerce,etc

Hyderabad : IT-Software, R and D , Pharma , semiconductors , Biotech , Aerospace , Warehousing , ecommerce and many many more

The era of India has finally arrived I really wish for this government to form an SPV for the 6 Megacities ( NCR, Mumbai-Pune ,Kolkata , Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad ) and develop them to really world class tier 1 standards . In 20 years we can expect around 200 million people to live in these 6 cities alone with each of these cities populated by at least 20-25 million people ....Mumbai and NCr may have almost 40 million each

We must follow China's example ...they must be our biggest teachers as far as development of urban centres are concerned ..also , we must be wary of any mistakes China has made in the process of development and try to avoid them

  • China may be, other's like Singapore and Dubai nearby may have appropriate schools, consultants, businesses, funds and motivation to collaborate
What I see is that these represent a large and fantastic business opportunity and therefore Japan, US are big on above along with local partners. I posted somewhere that these are mainly $ cities what with thier primary export being Human Resources thus accruing remittances and exports with IT, Pharma, Auto and Tourism leading in $ revenues. Translated in proper PPP terms, said cities must easily make to the richest cities in the world except the infrastructure bit which is a local currency expense. Eg. land for infrastructure like metro systems, water works, sewage disposal, sanitation and hygiene, tunnel boring machines, bridges and expressways.

Summarily, Said cities $ earnings are worth x10 more while their infrastructure is not x10 worse then when they weren't making as much of a killing from exports. However, the boom of the past 10-20 yrs. means no way has the infra. kept pace and the lag will go on for another 10 yrs.

Navi Mumbai International Airport | MH
The GVK led Navi Mumbai International Airport (P) Limited (NMIAL), has appointed Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), a globally renowned firm, to design the Navi Mumbai International Airport’s Terminal 1 and ATC Tower.

The London based ZHA was selected on completion of a challenging and intensive 12 week fast track design competition amongst the best international architecture firms that were shortlisted by GVK.

Projects

ZHA is a world renowned firm established in 1979 and is known for its dynamic, innovative and iconic architecture with a portfolio of over nine hundred and fifty projects spread across forty four nations.

The firm has designed Beijing’s new Daxing airport terminal of 700,000 sq.m. which is currently under construction. Their other landmark projects include the Olympic Aquatics Centre in London, the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan, the MAXXI Contemporary Arts Centre in Rome, the Guangzhou Opera House in China, Al Wakrah Stadium for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and many more.

This will be ZHA’s first major project in the Indian sub-continent.

Landmark airport

GVK Reddy, Founder and Chairman, GVK and Chairman NMIAL, in a statement said, “Our vision is to establish one more landmark airport that would exceed the benchmarks that GVK had set through MIAL whilst creating Terminal 2 at Mumbai airport.”

“We are committed towards bringing the best global practices from the industry to design, engineer and build this most awaited airport project in India and hence we decided to go with ZHA, a firm known for its path breaking and remarkable architecture. It also has the expertise of delivering a world class airport design through a highly professional team,” he said.

NMIAL is a Public Private Partnership venture in which the GVK led Mumbai International Airport (P) Ltd., has a 74 per cent stake with CIDCO, the nodal agency of the Government of Maharashtra, holding the remaining 26 per cent.

The GVK MIAL was declared the winning bidder for the Greenfield international airport that will be built on 1,160 hectares in phases and will eventually cater to 60 million passengers per year. The initial concession period is 30 years from the appointed date which is extendable for a further 10 years.
