How many Indian Cities have metro (train) .. Can you give a list please...
There are currently 8 operational metro systems in India. Green background for the systems that are under construction. Blue background for the systems that are currently in planning, Yellow background for other proposed systems but no planning yet.

Metro systems indeed portray India's emerging economy and economic developments taking place ever since the reforms of 1990's!

Metro systems indeed portray India's emerging economy and economic developments taking place ever since the reforms of 1990's!

  • Construction of Vijayawada Metro(also called as Amaravati Metro as capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati will come near to Vijayawada & there will be only one metro system for whole region) will start in a month or two as central Govt. has already cleared project & tender will be floated in this week.
  • Visakhapatnam Metro CM of AP is very much interested in project & Vishakhapatnam is better suited for metro than Vijayawada but I think starting of construction not possible by 2nd quarter of next year.
  • Pune Metro also got clearance from central govt but I'm unsure when will start construction.
  • CM of UP Akhilesh Yadav already said that construction of Kanpur Metro will start by December, I'm sure construction will start by Jan 2016 as DPR already submitted & Kanpur ideally suited for metro as per DPR.
  • Thiruvananthapuram Metro may start construction in this year as elections in Kerala are near as DPR already prepared & cleared by state govt & sent to central govt. for clearance.
  • Kozhikode Metro as as Thiruvananthapuram.
  • Chandigarh Metro seems very complicated as four parties are involved in it, Haryana govt, Punjab govt, Chandigarh(UT) govt & central govt but some recent news are good for Chandigarh metro as all four govts are NDA govts, however construction doesn't seem near.
  • Agra Metro may start construction before Dec 2016 as next elections in UP will be in 2017.
  • Varanasi Metro may start construction before Agra metro as Varanasi is constituency of PM Narendra Modi & Akhilesh Yadav also want to give something to Varanasi.
  • Meerut Metro seems far from reality before completion of first phase Lucknow Metro, Kanpur Metro, Varanasi Metro & Agra Metro as these cities are bigger than Meerut, also UP govt may not have that much money, by the way JICA, AFD, KfW & EDB have interest in giving loan loan to metro projects in India.
  • Allahabad Metro same as Meerut Metro.
  • Patna Metro - keep dreaming as Bihar Legislative Assembly election, 2015 will over in November & no one will take interest in this project after that, BTW I hope it'll find place in menifestos of both alliances (JDU-RJD-INC n NDA).
  • Indore & Bhopal was in menifesto of BJP for state election which was in Dec 2013 but now both projects seems dead.
  • Guwahati Metro, Bhubaneswar Metro, Dehradun Metro, Gwalior Metro, Nasik Metro, Srinagar Metro are just political stunts by politicians. But Gwalior & Nasik are 2M plus should start construction but Bhopal-Indore for Gwalior & Pune-Mumbai for Nasik need to get decongested. For 1Million cities none of polititian is interested so Srinagar metro & Guwahati Metro also seems distant reality. National Capital Region Metro is too costly.
  • I don't know why Surat Metro is not even in consideration as Surat is 5 million plus & 9th largest city in India.

BENGALURU: ASTROSAT, satellite for the first dedicated Indian astronomy mission aimed at studying celestial objects, is scheduled for launch on September 28, a senior Indian Space Research Organisation official today said.

"The satellite is scheduled for launch on board the launch vehicle PSLV C-30, on September 28 morning 10 am," Director, Public Relations, ISRO, Deviprasad Karnik told.

He said "now the vehicle assembly is almost completed; along with ASTROSAT there will be six co-passengers -- one satellite each from Indonesia and Canada, and four nano satellites from the US. These satellites have already arrived and those preparations are going on."

These six satellites are meant for maritime surveillance.

ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC) had transported ASTROSAT to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, using a specially-designed Satellite Transportation System (STS) on August 16.

The mission is capable of performing observations in ultra-violet (UV), optical, low and high-energy X-ray wavebands at the same time, ISRO had earlier said.

It had said ASTROSAT is the first mission to be operated as a space observatory by ISRO.

ASTROSAT carries four X-ray payloads, one UV telescope and a charge particle monitor.

Apart from ISRO, four other Indian institutions -- Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics and Raman Research Institute -- are involved in payload development.

Two of the payloads are in collaboration with Canadian Space Agency and University of Leiscester, UK, ISRO had said

Hope it will be ready by 2020 :sarcastic::sarcastic:
& all credit goes to didi.
