India's development sometimes seen as skewed towards urban areas or So called Big Cities. But there is a simultaneours effort going on all around towards creating and improving Infrastructure and services all over the country.

To begin with :

Road Infrastructure:

The Golden Quadrilateral is a highway network in India connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, thus forming a quadrilateral of sorts. The largest highway project in India, initiated by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, it is the first phase of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP), and consists of building 5,846 kilometres of four/six lane express highways at a cost of Rs. 60,000 crores (US$ 12.317 billion at 1999 prices). As of 2008, while the Golden Quadrilateral makes up under 2 percent of India's highway network, it carries about 40% of the country's traffic and accounts for one-third of its traffic fatalities.[1]
The vast majority of the Golden Quadrilateral is not access controlled, although safety features such as guardrails, shoulders, and high-visibility signs are used. The National Highways Authority of India has produced statistics to indicate that, as of September 2007, 96% of the entire work has been completed. However, these statistics appear to be misleading: in practice, roadworks are still a major feature of certain sections of the Golden Quadrilateral. For example, the statistics indicate that the Delhi to Mumbai section is 100% complete, whereas in reality there are a number of sections which are still single carriageway and in very poor repair (for example the stretch to Ahmedabad in Gujarat[citation needed]). The whole project is a few years behind schedule, due mainly to issues with the various states about giving up land for the national highway and the termination of several contracts which take 6 months to be issued. In January, 2008 it was announced that the project will now be expanded to cover 6,500 kilometers, some portions of which will be developed into eight lanes.

There is a serious flaw in the map. The road should have gone to Sadia in Assam....would have opened new doors to trade across the border with Myanmar, Thailand and so on....going to Silchar ensures only one thing healthy influx of the illegal border crossers into India. :-)

I have traveled through East-West corridor road at Bihar but frustrated to see poor connection between Nepal and India between this road just 60 km addition of NH28 will connect Nepal to India with better infrastructure.

Don`t worry 4 lanes will be built upto Tinsukia.. almost completed upto nogaon..Kaziranga section is causing problems

If it was China or European countries they would have made 30km overbridge to keep the forests safe. But if India takes such an massive infrastructure it would take centuries to complete...especially in the state of "lahe lahe" development.

I was speaking about the the Lungi clad immigrants.

Let's pray that the new govt does something about these Lungis, the sooner the better.

khosa ke!! I don`t know when was the last time you visited, you know, one side of highway is national park while on the other side there is huge lungi settlement. I enquired and found that they were settled their by our beloved kangress-dol ,just few kilometers from jokhalabandha and nobody is doing shyte , i wont be surprised if those settlement turns into a mini dhubri in a decade time.
Elevated road/overbridge will solve everything though ,lungis will leave on their own..

I read that 4 lanes would extended until Burma border.

Those roads were meant for interconnectivity within India with major cities and ports in almost all states. With neighbouring countries the plan has been different, anyway I heard the rail connectivity between India and Nepal is going in better way.

Raxual boarder in bihar has dry -port too. It is the major trade point between Nepal and India. Last year alone goods worth more than 7 billion dollar including petrochemical products worth 3 billion US dollar was imported by Nepal through this road alone. Some 8000-10000 trucks move in to Nepal through this road daily because it is the shortest distance between Kathmandu and India but due too poor road it has become almost difficult to trade with India so now Nepal government is considering to trade with China cause of poor infra. Rail connectivity is poor to their is not a single foot bridge at your Raxual rail junction.
