I was born in Shanghai, so far, there is no single photo here in this thread that is remotely comparable to the status of Shanghai in 1980s. have a look at the above "flyover" photos, we built the following in the early 1990s:

so far, we have spent trillions of dollars building the express-way, over another 150 billion $$$ have been spent on the high speed rail. this widened our gap to well above 20 years.
