Nepal? They are still fighting with Indian army Gurkha regiment! Indians and Nepalese can visit each other's country without visa. Only country can can do.
BANGLADESH? Recently Defence minister visited. We settled down border issues by exchanging lands. BD is one of the supporter of India.
Sri Lanka? They asked China to revist the port deal as India asked.
During recent South ASIA SATELLITE PROJECT ALL THE HEADS OF THE GOVTS FROM SAACR attended excluding Pakistan.
While all of the SAARC countries did not attend SAARC summit in Pakistan./ lol
You misunderstand @snow lake's post. It's true India has a certain degree of clout among some South Asian countries, specifically Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, because of political manipulation and interference in their internal political processes. But the people of those countries definitely hate Indians. Hindus always complain about 'cheerleaders' for China - ask yourself, why do we have so many cheerleaders among many South Asian countries? It's because they resent their dark-skinned, idol-worshipping neighbors for their bullying, hegemonic attitude, and are looking for a balancing presence.
In the long run, it's worse to be loathed by the people than the government. Governments, especially the supine, pliant, non-sovereigns ones you prop up, will come and go. But the people will stay, and they have long memories.
