36 Rafales costed India $8.8 Billion.

Had India acquired all 126 Rafales as it originally planned, the deal would have costed, upwards of $ 30 Billion.

If India manages to get 150 F-16s for $12 -15 Billion, that would be big bargain, compared to Rafales

$150 F-16s or $120 RAFALEs

then why not go for F-35 which is future oriented

If India were getting 120 Rafales for $12 Billion, that too manufactured in India, India would have never scrapped MRCA.

Even 150 F-16s for $12 Billion, along with the assembly line is a pipe dream, but since US wants to shut down its production line, it might give a bargain price for it.

The deal for 36 RAFALEs included 2 bases, customizations etc. It has already done all the heavy lifting. Any additional RAFALEs would not cost more than $100 million per piece.

at what price f16 block 52 was offered to pakistan....700m$ for 8 aircraft off the shelf.

how we going to get block 70 under 80m$ with TOT.



a running assembly line in US always going to produce at less price then a assambly line transfered to india.who going to take the cost of shifting.

and its block 70 which incorporate the f35 elements..

the cost is a roadblocker here otherwise the article would have never written.

If india goes for f16, It will take another 7-10 years to induct these fighters.
Because new setup from zero , but getting f16 will open gates for f35 in future.

on next three to five weeks sir and @naveedullahkhankhattak its not my decession but MOD+PMO+IAF combined decession as there is nothing out there in single engined jet catagory other than F35 that comes close to F16 Blk70/72 it has the 3rd gen JHMDS+next gen IRST and next gen Gan based AESA radar and comined/computersed-DATALINKED and minurtised EW+ECM+Jammaer+ avionics suite and weapons pacage more diverse than any other fighter jet in the world today with is more leathel and relativelly more battle tested and cost effective tha any thing else

and if thats not all USA is giving complete TOT and tranferring the whole assembelly and production line of F16 to india plus the socio political capital that comes with it swedes can only dream of it

main drawback with gripen is the payload, which is half to that of f16 or rafale at almost the same price.
and i find no such technolgy advantage in gripen which we can not incorporate into tejas .

The aircraft which will give a proposal to make the maximum components in India will get the contract. Its as simple as that.

Its price will naturally be lower due to the lower cost of production in India.
