Forget Pakistan, this should be a moment of pause for Indians themselves. The jingoistic talk of war, teaching Pakistan a lesson etc. etc. is not based in reality.

What Indians keep forgetting is that Pakistan's "never again" moment arrived in Dec 1971. In a future conflict, it is not within the ability of the Indian military to contain Pakistan's responses and prevent the progression up the escalatory rungs.

Pakistan maintains the ability to inflict serious damage on India and in the face of such damage, the Indian public, which has been inflamed on this jingoistic path by no other than the Modi government will be putting immense pressure to respond to Pakistan inflicting damage. As such all roads lead to a situation that neither side can control nor can afford. A Pakistan-India conflict will not be like the recent Azerbaijan-Armenia one with a neat end to the war.

I hope better sense prevails. Regardless of all of the past failures, talks are the only way forward. This also is the only "face saving" way for both sides.
