India can’t solve Sri Lanka’s political issues - BJP team

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led team, which is currently on a tour in Sri Lanka, has told the war-ravaged Lankan Tamils that India is ready to provide the “healing touch” but it cannot be expected to solve their political problems.

Interacting with a wide cross section of political parties and civil society in Jaffna on Wednesday, the leader of the six member team, Rajya Sabha member Ravi Shankar Prasad, said that India was aware that the Tamils of the Northern provinces needed a healing touch and assured them that India was with them.

However, he made it clear that Lankan Tamils should not expect India to solve their political problems. These would have to be solved by the people themselves through participation in the domestic political processes, he said.

India did not have a magic wand to solve their problems, he said.

Prasad also made it clear that India saw Sri Lanka as a friendly country and would never de-stabilize it.

The six member Indian team, which has a representative of the Shiv Sena (Suresh Prabhu), an RSS official (Ram Madhav), a political commentator (Swapan Dasgupta) and a human rights activist cum advocate (Monika Arora), was presented a kaleidoscopic view of opinions in Lanka’s Tamil-speaking Northern Province. The team met pro-government and anti-government groups separately, besides top civil and military officials.

Members of the team showed keen interest in the issues the Tamils were facing and asked probing questions. On Thursday, the team met MPs from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) at Hilton Hotel in Colombo. – Express News Service

why would it need to? India is not exactly the beacon of political well being and stability or even fairness, which is weird in democracy.

Sri Lanka problems are hers alone, maybe learn economy, military, technology and things that are actually helpful from the US, don't just learn meddling in other people's business.

India is stable enough :P.

India is and should be concerned about all ethnic Indians all over the world and all Hindus all over the world. Now go back to earning your 50 cents.

Well, maybe if you guys work hard to improve economy, the Indian government will be able to pay you 50 cents too.

India is one of the only, if not the only major nation that somehow has an armed rebellion in 2013. And they are capable of dealing damage.

So it means BJP is not supporting Sri Lankan Tamils? does it mean they will face hardtime in Tamil Nadu in next elections?

There needs to be a clear definition between SL Tamils and thier political rights to the madrasi jokers in TN and elsewhere trying to piggy back for thier own seperatist agenda's

What BJP said is India will not meddle in Srilanka's internal issues.

But will help war torn country particularly where majority Tamils are present.

They lost in karnatka.

They have a firm base here.

Sl Tamils is non of Indian Concern. Its Sri Lankan internal matter and Indian State interference is amounting to direct terror support.

he is talking about "party" not government :hitwall:

dint congress win in Karnatka?

If India cannot even solve its own internal issue, why deal with neighbors issues. Before you worry about the speck in your neighbor's eyes, take care of the plank in your own eyes.

WELL YOUR statement is general one. Let that emotional one keep aside and focus on what the BJP led team said
