Wonder y tihs guy is so obsessed with india.Comparing india and pakistan is like comparing apples and oranges. The best way is to compare the country with itself ,where it stood with the conditions now.Mr riaz may i suggest u to come up with these kind of stats rather than rantings that add nothing more of value to the forum.

It's only natural.

at least, he's trying to follow some noted Indian historians and intellectuals, we should give him credit. Apart from that, Haq is only trying to lift up the spirits of his compatriots. It's understandable.

Nonsense!

I am quoting from the 2011 World Bank report titled "Perspectives on Poverty in India".

http://www-wds.worldbank.org/extern...d/PDF/574280PUB0Pers1351B0Extop0ID0186890.pdf

The report clearly shows that India's poverty rate of 27.5%, based on India's current poverty line of $1.03 per person per day, is more than 10 percentage points higher than Pakistan's 17.2%. Assam (urban), Punjab and Himachal Pradesh are the only three Indian states with similar or lower poverty rates than Pakistan's.

Here's a graph from the report:

India%2BPoverty%2BWB%2B2011.png

Yes, report is 2011, but figures they quoted are older.

.
What? The Indians were arguing against Riaz Haq when he said that India has more poverty than Pakistan.

Is it wrong to provide sources to back up an argument?

You must be blind. it's already been established that most 2011 reports about India use statistics of 2004-05. I don't know why our government's giving older data but that's the issue here.

As long as India is an independent power , i have no problem if India never becomes a superpower.

Regarding India becomes a some power. This is an interesting read.

haters will hate.. but this reminds me of one of my favorite line from a Jagjit Singh song

"Hum bhi Dariya hai, humeh apna Hunar maloom hai.. ..... Jis taraf bhi chal diye, Raastah ho jaayega"

In a twisted way it helps to show that there are more poor than there actually exists, so that the politicians can pocket funds given in the name of poverty eradication and funds alloted for the betterment of the needy. A lot of vote bank politics comes into play as well.
On the other hand a lot of laborers, drivers, house staff get paid handsomely in the cities but these people classify themselves as BPL based on their rural records cos their village falls under the underdeveloped zone.

I think the guy is correct. I mean superpower only brings trouble, war enemies and hatred. Eg US is hated by almost every country in the world. 2nd India needs to develop socially first to combat poverty there are so so many in villages still do honour killings they kill their own children for some stupid family's name. America succeeded due to the fact that it was NOT a prehistoric country and yet still has to develop a culture. They can be compared to barbarians in some cases.
Domination always brings problems, every empire in history of man has not survived the test of time let be romans, persians, mauryans, mongolians etc,,, they always collapse and disintegrate cause of resistance in different cultures with their empire. US by the way as I said is a recently made country in terms of human history so resistance is less. Soviets collapsed and now soon US will collapse but any country with an ancient history, even china cannot dominate easily there will be resistance within citizens just like in india its just a fact that cannot be ignored. Reducing poverty and social divide is a way forward thats all I have to say.

I don't think our think tanks(even military) are trying to make India, a military super power. There's a wide ranging consensus in New Delhi that India can and must become economic super power, i.e., No 1 modern economy. The reason is fairly simple. Only wealth creation can solve the problem of poverty. wealth redistribution programs are good to debate but impractical , which leaves the only option creation. Apart from that our environmental goals, goals of sustainable resources for an ever growing population and job creation, dreams of knowledge economy etc., all make it the only option. India can and must become economic super power.

Agreed economic power is the way to go ...

Superpower is a word coined in the west during the cold war it has no relevance for India when the world is moving towards a multipolar state.

good point and sane Indians will agree with all your points, I think the system which India is following is maturing slowly and will see fruition within a couple of decades. As far as our foreign policy is concerned the path which our country treads is quite sane and mature as well, Our friendly overtures to our immediate neighbors presently is a case in point. An emergence of India will be great for the entire world as we will definitely back policies for the well being of the entire world and specially for the downtrodden. Reducing poverty and social divide is our major concern. A strong India will mean better humanity all over. You can research all previous stands that India has taken and you will find that it has been for the betterment of humankind and respect to human life.

Mere blog articles by pathetic low lives do not influence destinies of great nations.

You can cry as much as you want. India's rise is already there for all to see.

Personal attacks usually lead to ban but some clearly have exception.

If same media reports that tibetans are oppressed culturally, politically and economically, you are the first person to call it western propaganda. :D

And if there is a thread regarding China, i guarantee you, most posts, approx 70% of them will be by Indians to start bashing.
You guys are even in Pakistan's internal problem threads. This forum has become IDF now. I think your population has certainly exceeded more than Pakistan and China combined by now:lol:
