???? ??? ??? ?? ????? ?????? ???????? INS ??????-??? - IBN Khabar

After INS Arihant, India is now producing its second nuclear submarine, which is at an advanced stage and expected to be launched next year. Informed sources said India's second nuclear submarine named "INS Aridaman " will be its predecessor INS Arihant submarine's twin and its features, size and capabilities will be similar.

India inadvertently unveiled the second submarine in the shipyard in Visakhapatnam recently because of the accident at the shipyard. The accident killed four Navy personnel. When a section of the media published false reports that the accident would affect the sea trials of INS Arihant, some officials strongly denied that the incident happened while INS Arihant was in the dry dock.

India builds the second nuclear submarine INS Aridaman

These officials confirmed that the accident happened in the same docks used for Advanced Technology Vessel (the nuclear submarine project, codename), but at the time of the crash instead of Arihant there was another vessel.

It was later confirmed by other sources that the INS Arihant was moved for sea trials and the other vessel, being talked about, was in fact India's second nuclear submarine. Arihant INS was launched on July 26, 2009 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur. Traditionally, naval ships are launched by a woman.

Sources said the incident in the shipyard happened when one of the dock gates was being tested. Caisson, a French system which has three gates, was being set up for the first time in the shipyard. After putting two gates in place, the third gate was being installed there. The gate is forty feet high and about five - six feet wide and had naval officers and personnel standing on it. When the gate was wobbled, they fell into the dry dock. At the same time the sea water had to be left in the dry dock and the victims of this tragedy got a double hit leading to the loss of life.

Sources stressed that the incident will not affect the INS Arihant or any other sub building activity at the shipyard.

Arihant

i checked this is russian delta 4 submarine not arihant.

^^^
U r talking about 2nd, there were reports of even the hull of 3rd sub ready also and that too in the last quater of 2010.

Hey sparks please clear these issues :
1. According to previous reports, hulls of 2nd and 3rd sub were ready (by LnT) but according to this article the work on hull has just started which is odd and is obvious waste of time as they could have built the hull of atleast 2nd sub while working on the first one.

2. The reactor has been fabricated with the help of Russia according to this article which is just opposite to how the work on a submarine progresses, i mean first you have to at-least design the hull and body.

3. According to reports of accident which happened a couple months back, the work on 2nd sub already started and was kept secret but according to this article keel was just laid.

4.
The project is expected to be ready for sea trials by 2015.
What does the writer mean by this ? !st sub itself is undergoing sea trials at the moment. I hope he is talking about all the 3 subs ready for sea trials by 2015.

No idea mate.. i saw and posted... please post relavant links of similar news ... its getting confused..

Maybe its classified on how many nuclear subs we are working on right now.

This article does not seem to be a reliable one. Many journos had reported that hull of the 2nd Arihant was complete and 3rd hull was in advanced stage.
But this is saying just the opposite.

Maybe its classified on how many nuclear subs we are working on right now.
Total 5.

Arihant class submarine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Two more submarines in the class are under construction and the hull sections of these has been completed at L&T facility in Hazira and is expected to be transported to Vishakapatanam for assembling.[40] INS Arihant is undergoing extensive sea trials before it's induction into service, and is said to be inducted prior to the induction of Akula class submarine.

if this news is true and work on second sub is just begining then its a sorry state of affairs for the indian navy.
Anyways hope they start working on ssn soon instead of ssbn, we need more attack subs in the class of akula

Three submarines are being built under the ATV project, with the third being of a much larger size(maybe 8-10k tons)
Indian Navy's long term acquisition plans include three SSBN and six SSN submarines.
BTW these are the only authentic pics of Arihant:

Little mistake sir,in 2008 MoD gave IN goahead to plan and design for the follow on bigger SSBNs with capability to carry 12-16 long range ballistic missiles.

YEah..which is why two Akula II subs are being leased with an option to buy from Russia.
