India becomes world's 5th largest economy, overtakes UK, France: Report

February 18, 2020

India emerged as the world's fifth largest economy by overtaking the UK and France in 2019, says a report.

A US-based think tank World Population Review in its report said that India is developing into an open-market economy from its previous autarkic policies.

"India's economy is the fifth largest in the world with a GDP of USD 2.94 trillion, overtaking the UK and France in 2019 to take the fifth spot," it said.

The size of the UK economy is USD 2.83 trillion and that of France is USD 2.71 trillion.

The report further said that in purchasing power parity (PPP) terms, India's GDP (PPP) is USD 10.51 trillion, exceeding that of Japan and Germany. Due to India's high population, India's GDP per capita is USD 2,170 (for comparison, the US is USD 62,794).

India's real GDP growth, however, it said is expected to weaken for the third straight year from 7.5 per cent to 5 per cent.

The report observed that India's economic liberalisation began in the early 1990s and included industrial deregulation, reduced control on foreign trade and investment, and privatisation of state-owned enterprises.

"These measures have helped India accelerate economic growth," it said.

India's service sector is the fast-growing sector in the world accounting for 60 per cent of the economy and 28 per of employment, the report said, adding that manufacturing and agriculture are two other significant sectors of the economy.

The US-based World Population Review is an independent organisation without any political affiliations.

Of course one Luxembourger earns more than 100 Pakistani's but hey who cares. Pakistan can gloat over the fact that it has bigger economy then the wealthiest country on earth. So can India. Now both can masturbate over "big, big" while being fcukin starving.

This is way too sensible for internet

The bottom line is most Paks and Indians would give their right and left testicles to be a Luxembourg citizen rather than big Pakistan and big, bigger, biggest, biggifest India.

Nahh, man thats a bit harsh. Maybe true for an Indian, but a Pakistani atmost would only fall to give a kidney. I have yet to see human rickshaws in our country, where as in india they are common. The extreme poverty in India is mind boggling. and i m not talking about multi-dimensional poverty, i am talking about the extreme poverty, they live worse than animals.

They say "lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." And I can't think of better example then South Asia. I am convinced that the figures we get for Pakistan and India are fudged. Over the previous months I have yaken to enjoying youtube travel Vlogs in the evenings which replaced me watching crime series. Got sick of murder, rape and police investigations. Having watched lots of them from multitude of uploaders from across the world that give on the ground experiance of life on streets of India I conclude that the reality - India is probably slighter poorer then Pakistan. No amount of fudging can hide the reality on the ground.

The best example is watching vlogs of travellers driving from Indian Punjab but Pak Punjab across the Wagah border. Indian Punjab is one of the wealthiest states in India. Yet there appears to be no real economic differance between the Pak side and India side other than the marked increase in beggers and man pulled rickshaws on the Indian side.

Now go enjoy your numbers ......
